The Crusade's title track was awesome, I'll give it that. I've felt disinclined to get this after that album though.

I'm starting to enjoy this record almost as much as Ascendancy.

I'm a big fan of Trivium, but well aware of their faults

I personally love the album, but I think those who don't can at least admit the band is heading in the right direction.

*Also this is my first sputnik comment, just thought I'd throw that out there

^ Agree this is their best album in my opinion, but then again I'm the only person in the world who thought The Crusade was better than Ember or AscendancyThis Message Edited On 11.28.08

this band isn't really going in any direction though, just rehashing old material.

So if I loathed The Crusade, will I find any redeeming quality in this or just skip it completely?

I wouldn't skip it. I didn't enjoy the Crusade that much and this is pretty great

I totally agree with this review with the statement about the singer being influenced rather than trying to mimic hetfield, spot on right there. Im also glad to see in the review that Of Prometheus and the Crucifix was mentioned as I think this is one of the better songs on this album. Overall, Im very satisfied with this album.

Interestingly enough, I feel that the singles are not necessarily the strongest songs on the album. I've looked on my I-tunes # of play's count and its spread relatively evenly, with The Calamity and Throes of Perdition being the only two that are significantly less. This shows that even though they're still writing songs that can be clearly identified as singles, the rest of the material has enough balls to maintain the listeners interest. If they had just cut out The Calamity and Throes of Perdition, i think many people's complaints of being bored by the end of the album would be silenced. Oh well, it could have been worse.

With that said, i feel that while i can understand how Trivium's sound can appeal to mainstream kiddies and oldschool fans alike, it's inconceivable that they've garnered this much attention at either end of the spectrum. People that love this band will shout it from the top of a mountain, people that hate this band will google every interview looking for things they say that piss them off. It's all kinda ridiculous, but in the end maybe it's good for the metal community as a whole to get all sorts of hot and bothered about a band as all genres of metal are getting exposure because of it.

Puckingham: That is about the most interesting and well worded comment I have ever seen. I definitely agree with the last paragraph and it is a good thing to get metal exposed.

To Mutatedfreek: Thankyou I will admit I'm a fan of most of Trivium's music but I realize they do have their flaws, I appreciate the comment.

To Bastard: You're comments actually crack me up. And by the way, Trivium is a total ripoff, but the just do it so damn well :-p

Puckingham: Thats OK, it was a very insightful comment. I also enjoy all of Trivium's albums, although the most recent two releases a lot less than Ascendancy or Ember to Inferno, and likewise I overlook the flaws because the music is generally likable.

Trivium's best album hands down, Ascendancy has lost a bit of its magic lol but still is a very close second
