"their new stuff might be different but unlike in flames these guys managed to completely change their sound and remain good"

That is certainly true, DT might just be one of the most consistent "Gothenburg" bands. I just prefer the songwriting and the more riff-oriented approach on this album.

disagree about their earlier stuff or at least this album because the later stuff just flows much better, has much more texture and is overall more interesting. This album just feels awkward as if it's straining itself about half the time because it hasn't got the necessary gumph that the later ones had to pull it off.

Fiction and Damage Done are pretty much on the same level as this for me

Yeah, not all of their later albums would strik me as coherent as you claim for them to be.

Either way, this > Fiction and then everything else.

Hymns of loss are heard

From the masses in the streets

Praising the last of days

Punish My Heaven is just a ridiculously good track. Top 5 DT for me for sure. Album is a classic btw.

Punish My Heaven, Nightfall By the Shore of Time, Crimson Winds, Edenspring, and The Emptiness from Which I Fed would be my choices. Their first album is waay too underrated

Digging: First Fragment - Dasein

Idk the debut is the least interesting album to me. Even We Are The Void is better to my ears

It's frightening how consistent DT are. They've yet to make an album I could actually dislike.

I do dislike WATV. Never liked anything about it. Everything else ranges from good to downright amazing.

The first album has some incredibly complex and interesting composition going on, a lot like AtG's first album. We Are The Void doesn't even come close to Skydancer in any way honestly.

Haven't jammed that one enough to make a judgement which is a shame as this guys are one of my favorite bands.
