This album really crept up on me, i put off listening to it for a while. but it really suprised me, gonna take me listening to it a few more times to get a better feel for it, but im thinking around a 3 or 3.5 at best, but i highly doubt it

Is there a dying need to put the title of the review in the review itself, and the underline-ment of every mention of both the group and previous albums?

i guess so, thats how some people do it, i always thought if you could mention it and somehow relate it to the album you're reviewing then its fine

but just giving a detailed history up to and including the album is just unecessary

Still needs lessons in songwriting as some parts come out of nowhere, but a big improvement over The Crusade (bar Matt's vocals, needs work).

This is no doubt a very important album for themselves and the fans and it sounds like a step in the right direction, as I can finally hear somewhat of an own sound. Vocally, the clean passages in Shogun are great, as Matt sounds like he isn't trying to either imitate Chuck Billy or Hetfield.

Some very enjoyable moments, some forgettable ones. After listening for a while your review is very much spot on, well done.

This isn't bad, but like people have said, some of the songs are hard to get through. Certianly prefer this over the new ATR. But that's not saying much...
Also, who does the heavy vocals on this. Is it Matt/Corey or both?
I'm sure I read in a magazine or somewhere that Corey was doing some.

Good review...some of the people talking about getting Ascendancy at 15 makes me feel old. They are lucky though...when I was in high school people thought Coal Chamber and Limp Bizkit was good metal. This Message Edited On 09.24.08

I've heard this album a few times in the last week and it's okay.

The first 5 songs are absolutely brilliant, and then the album dies. Literally it dies. The songs get boring, pretentious and try-hard.

Maybe next time they can hold up the verve throughout an album. Or maybe only release 5 Track EPs.

I agree that the first 5 dominate and then it drags, but Shogun is prolly the best track on the album, so it ends on a strong note imo.

Never was a huge fan of Trivium but sometimes I get in the mood to listen to them.
Haven't checked this out but it can't be any worse than The Crusade. I just really hate Matt's singing.

"We're stuck with metalcore.... "
Do you mean that this album is metalcore? If so...what about it?

its definitely part-metalcore, trivium have always been, save for mebbe the crusade. breakdowns, many on ascendancy, screaming vocals, etc
