I need to get this as I have heard nothing but good things about it. Great review, and you were brave on the St. Anger take, that is also the way I feel over that album.

3 for the album but the review was excellent, no one else need bother.

Anyone else think that "That was just your life" sounds like Dream Theater's "Constant Motion"

one of the riffs does, certainly

Also it's nice to see that not a single person has given this a 5 yet.

Having Cyanade and Unforgiven III back to back doesn't help.

Personally, i never really care about the quality of lyrics as long as they fit and have a good melody

puns and shitty metaphors have slowly begun to dominate their music since the the black album.
their first few had decent lyrics

Great review - I laughed hard every time Jaymz appeared (as well as the other snarky comments interspersed throughout the review). Hopefully this stems the tide of 2342304 more rolling in, because nothing else can really be said.

I barely did. It doesn't really stick out nearly as much as the rest of the album. LIKE ALL NIGHTMARE LONG! YEAH-HAHH

They're pretty different albums, and I enjoy both of them about the same. Both are 4's from me.

Excellent review and a great album. Yeah James' lyrics and vocals are probably the low point of the record (Lars, IMO, did a decent if unspectacular job), but the riffs mainly kick ass and some of the grooves on this record are f*cking sick.

Anyway, good review.

Well written review and I agree with the rating...but I think it goes a little too much into Metallica as a whole rather than being a specific album review.

Thank you! I knew when I was listening that there was something familiar about parts of it. I kept trying to think of other Metallica songs though.

People who expect an album review to talk about every single song on a record need to realize that picking a few select songs that epitomize a record or make the author's points more vivid is preferred over writing the same thing eight, nine, ten, or however-many-tracks-there-are-on-a-record times. In cases like this, you would be better served listening to the album yourself. Being able to encapsulate an entire record into a few paragraphs takes a lot of skill without subjecting your readership into fitful bouts of ennui (I put the 'moron' in 'oxymoronic phrases'), and Dave's one of the best at it here.
