Album drags a bit for me, I dunno why, just doesnt keep my attention as well as dtgl.

First few tracks are awesome though, “The Only Survivor Was Miraculously Unharmed" is great, and the first track is heavier than I ever thought a Spencer-led underoath could be.

^not utterly. John really summed this up well. It's like they're constantly on the verge of a generational album imo and show flashes of absolute brilliance... then lull

If they had a song like "Returning Empty Handed" or a song like "Casting Such a Thin Shadow", I'd think the hole that is missing in the album would be filled.
"The Only Survivor Was Miraculously Unharmed" is a very good song, but considering the albums sort of has to revolve around it, it doesn't stack up to the centerpiece tracks from DtGL. Throw the two albums together and you have a perfect metalcore release.

what I said wasn't any kind of dig at the album, I was just getting at the fact that if you really build something up you normally just end up getting really disappointed, even if it is not that bad.

This was my most anticipated album of the year (TMV was so early in the year i didnt have much time within the year to build it up) and I wasn't really disappointed at all.

A lot of the songs here feel like rehashings of stuff they've done in the past, but it still rules a lot.

I didn't mention it in the review for space/relevance issues, but the ending to the album is so incredible. The build up to spencer's dissonant recital/whatever you want to call it is amazing.

seems to me this will likely be a grower, which appears to have been what happened for their last album for a few people.

^agreed. my only issue (or what i was trying to communicate earlier) is how it reminds me so strongly of some seek forgiveness.

idk it's probably a little high, but they're my favorite band, so whatever.
And yeah, Too Bright...Too Loud is basically Some Will Seek Forgiveness pt. 2, only way better.
