Yeah i'll prob start with Filth then, then jam COG later today. also will prob jam publi castration if i dig swans. Believe it or not I listened to the first two tracks of swans and wasn't as impressed as everyone else was; it was god just not mind-blowing.

' started here

I did too. It took a lot of effort to get through some of their other stuff after that.

"Children of god is excellent, but not THE album you make it out to be"

Thanks for your definitive facts!

I started with Filth. Was a terrible starting place. Went to Children of God, was also a bad starting place, went here, loved it, revisited all their albums, loved them BAM

Yeah Godspeed! took a few listens, but ended up loving their stuff. Swans could possibly be the same way.

Swans only have three good starting places, Great Annihilator, White Light and My Father

Same, but it took a while for specific albums to grow on me

Took a bit of Allejuah!, Loved F#A# (infinity) after two listens though, Lift your arms also took a bit, but ended up digging that one as well.

I listened to Lift Your Skinny Fists and I was like "woah this rules so hard"

I listened to F♯ A♯ ∞ and it took a few listens to really blow me away.

to this day I've never listened to Yanqui U.X.O. and I found 'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend! to be good but not amazing.

Slow Riot for New Zerø Kanada is also amazing tho

Listened to about 15 minutes of U.X.O. but ended up falling asleep due to exhaustion from a long day.

Might check out slow riot sometime this week while i am doing work stuff at home.

For me, it was more like

F# blew me away
LYSF was great but didn't "click" for me for a while
Slow Riot always ruled
Yanqui took FOREVER to grow on me. Within the last year, it really started to click for me.
Don't Bend, Ascend is great, but not close to their best. However I heard them play Mladic live before I heard the album, and it is much better live.

Slow Riot's the only GY!BE release that had to grow on me. Maybe LYSF a little too.

I tried listening to this once and just couldn't get through it

don't be deterred by swans, they're really abrasive at first but just let them fuck you slowly and you'll get used to it once the bleeding stops
