So I got the physical copy a week or two ago in the post, and the liner notes has a huge list of all the source material. It's quite nice. A lot more in-depth than what's on Wikipedia.

FINALLY seeing Girl Talk this January.

He played here a few weeks ago and the stage collapsed because so many people got up and danced with him.
The venue owners were total bitches about it and in the next day's paper they said they would stop booking any acts besides rock.

So this is definitely better than Night Ripper, and one of the best albums of the year for sure. "Here's The Thing" and "Shut The Club Down" are clearly Gillis at his prime, especially the former which is the best track on the album. Best mash-ups:
Jessie's Girl/Rather Get Some Head
Young Turks/Back In The Day (particularly the way this then flows into the "We dont give a fuck" part is brilliant)
Its Goin Down/Aphex Twin Song
Paranoid Android/Jay Z
I'm A Flirt
Chicago Saturday In The Park
fleetwood mac gypsy
def a couple more im thinking of, only thing that disappointed me was his use of crank dat soulja boy, think he could have done better with that one

But it's Thin Lizzy's "Jailbreak!" Even though the Soulja Boy element is lame I really dig the TL.

i really can't decide which album i dig more. cause Night Ripper has a lot more of him chopping up songs into way tinier snippets and manipulating the beats a lot more. fta is more just like layering the songs over each other, but he just strikes gold with perfect mashups way more often, he's clearly improved his abilities. But like I said I wish he did more stuff like at the end of Here's The Thing, where he cuts up song and makes his own beat kind of.

A solid album, great review. My friend has been listening to GT for years but I never considered picking it up until I read this review. Play Your Part (Pt. 1) is solid enough on its own, especially the Pete Townshed/Unk Temple of the Dog/Birdman Lil' Wayne/Sinead O'Connor mash-ups.

I'd give this a 4.5 if it weren't for some of the weaker moments in this album, especially that MIA part: "nana na na na"This Message Edited On 01.17.09
