^^ You're not alone. It's definitely overlooked compared to their other stuff.

Too inconsistent. The good is awesome, but it's often followed by minutes of boring. Compared to Ghost Reveries it just feels thin, stretched out. Still, it's unique and has it's place in the discography.

^^^I more or less agree with this actually, it's one of their most disjointed listens but that somehow didn't matter to me much. Everyone promotes BWP's amazing atmosphere meanwhile I don't feel it.

ya must be a matter of perspective cause I can't find a shred of humanity on this album, it sounds totally sterile to me.

I listened to BWP a few months ago after shelving it for a bit, and aside from The Drapery Falls and Bleak it just didn't impress me. To be honest it feels like their most immature. It's more proggy than the ones before, but they beat it in focus and depth of atmosphere. It's overrated for sure, though still great.

Disagreed Demi...what's happened to you?

Blackwater Park isn't even the Opeth that got me into Opeth. It's bland, like seriously apart from The Lepar Affinity and the title track what out and out classics have you got? Bleak is way too fuck long. The Drapery Falls is boring. Dirge for November is, well, a dirge.

While I like the album, it makes me angry.

Blackwater park and this album got me into this band. Album is still pretty solid, but their other material is far better

For such a universally acclaimed album, BWP sure does have a shit tonne of detractors on this site.
