I love Sunny Murray's work here, he hardly even touches his actual drums and like 80% only uses cymballs, the feel of this album is really unique because of it

Honestly, that shit kinda bothered the hell outta me. Made some of the compositions feel incredibly flimsy without the drums backing it up.

Yeah I can see that not everyone's gonna dig it, but it makes the album feel really... Meditative? It always sounds like it's writhing and wailing but it never thrashes thanks to the lack of drums, so it always feels like it's holding itself together even when it's threatening to collapse

Rather, it always feels like it's threatening to collapse, but never actually does so and it's completely intentional rather than wasted potential, if that makes sense

heard this for the first time yesterday.

Kinda in awe with how the absolute chaos of this thing essentially becomes a sheen of palatable sensory tickling

free jazz just does not click with me. i enjoy some of the avant stuff like out to lunch but i can't really get into this. honestly find it sort of boring .

so i thought free jazz was a sub genre of avant... i guess im comparing stuff that isn't quite as untethered as this to this. like the quasi-arranged free stuff like out to lunch vs this which is just completely amorphous
