Just can't get into it at all, brain. And believe me, I've tried. It's weird, cause I still believe Everything is Fire is one of the best. I know these bands aren't identical, but they're surely similar.

Drums on this are just inhuman. This guy puts Alex Hernandez to shame.

This is true. Obscura is better than EIF tho. Ulcerate only got better and better after that album.

Dunno why I ever bothered listening to this in anything other than flac. Completely different.

Right?! I roll with .aif but any lossless format makes a huge difference if you have a good sound system.
|
| |
Lossless doesn't make much of a difference regardless of format. It's very difficult for even the most well-trained ears to tell the difference between 320kbps and lossless.
Anyone who says otherwise is a victim of the placebo effect, as most people who are scrutinised under a test between lossless and lossy formats usually fail.

Difference between 320 and lossless is night and day with good speakers. I've been cross comparing albums of which I have both and it's totally different on my good set up. On my earbuds it doesn't matter.

If you say so.

You can come and test it yourself but it's a long flight

I have my own sound systems it's okay
|

What do you use? I'm curious now
|

Even when the differences are noticeable, they're very minor considering the difference between a 320 file and lossless is pretty imperceptibly small to human ears. That's why 320 is an acceptable standard, and lossless is often seen as redundant for solely listening purposes.

I use a lot of stuff, I have a couple of amps, a micro hi-fi system, a few different speakers and i collect headphones.
i don't have it all written down but it all ranges between good and very good in quality. I'm not rich enough for the uber expensive stuff though.

Interesting. I don't have a crazy expensive set up myself, but sitting here right now, it makes quite a difference to me to have the 320 vs FLAC. Maybe itunes does something to it? Using Music Bee for the FLACs.

iTunes doesn't compress lossless files if that's what you mean. Though it doesn't play FLAC -- that doesn't really matter since lossless is lossless.

Nice talk about stereo gear. Indeed, on high end stuff flac and mp3 difference is vast. Especially with bass, the guitars sounds too artificial on 320 in lower octaves, also 2nd harmonic is really bad with compressed files. I spent lots of time (more than 2 years) partnering electronics and speaker, so they can play extreme metal properly. 90% of conventional high end gear is designed for jazz, light rock, pop. I suggest using powerfull monoblocs with high current (no less than 100A) and asynchronous dac. Speakers is really tough - most multi driver design has coherency problems, while 2-way systems sometimes has not enough resolution to fully play 3 distorted guitars and hellishly pounded drums. If you are in to expensive stuff, look for atleast 300mm bass driver and stay away from horns (not jbl thou). I really like krushing force of big JBLs.
