this album is the most symphonic---i hear that "shadows over silence" sound the same and are trying to have more ensemble ---they are teaming up with tuomas soon for their debut

Lol. I'm going balistic trying to play all of the Gethsemane intro perfectly. My favorate Nightwish album... wait... mabye my favorate Metal album! Well, I love this review although...

I see Moondance as 1 of the highlights. You can (well, I can) imagine people doing a moondace. The male vocals going "HEY" is awsome! I would have gave it a 4 instead of 3 but hey, it is your call. I think in my strange criteria on how I rate songs.

Also, The Riddler is a big turn off. I hate the synth in the background of Tarja's vocals. 3 instead of 4 by me.

Hey has anyone seen the Gethsemane video. It has Tarja, and only Tarja. Bad you say? Well, she looks hot in it so who cares? If anyone doesn't agree, they are either woman or lying! I'm also p***** off at this "Best Guitarists" list I found. There is NO EMMPU! THATS RIGHT MY FRIENDS! EMMPU VUORINEN ISN'T IN IT! But theres more! SEEMINGLY, Kurt Cobain, the annoying grunger which DESTROYED all of the rock acts fame is seemingly a BETTER guitarist. HMMMMMMMMM!!! I'll let you decide on that 1. I think I know your answer though.

This album is NOT their most symphonic. You're thinking of Once.

I love Gethsemane. Much props for neoclassical.

Emppu is HIGHLY underrated as a guitarist...he's much better than people give him credit for. Very versatile.

Just picked this up today, I'm on the third track and it's great so far. I like the second song the best, but it'll probably change when I hear the rest.

I honestly don't know how to rate this. Its really good but I'm torn between a 3.5 and 4. Only a few songs stand out by themselves, but as a whole the album is prety solid. I think I'm more leaning to a 4 so I'll give it that.

Exactly how I feel. This to me is like Breaking Benjamin's Saturate, there isn't a song that stands above the rest, but all of the songs are solid solid songs.

I still gave this a 4.5 though :DThis Message Edited On 02.24.08

I'm going to have to easily disagree with you both. I find every song easily stands out from the rest. At this point, I don't have a favorite song because each song is so great. Stargazers is an excellent opener, the closer(s) are top notch, I mean, nothing Nightwish does tops Walking In The Air or Sleeping Sun, the middle section is solid and Moondance is a tight instrumental, showing some folk elements to a tee. Perfect album start to finish, none of the songs showing mediocrity or a repetitive nature. + I much prefer Tarja when she used her opera vocals to the max before going the more accessible route, not that it's bad, it's quite excellent but I prefer the older sound with out a doubt. This Message Edited On 02.24.08

Yes. This is how I started off and this is still my favorite Nightwish album. Their new sound, past 3 or 4 albums sound nothing like this. This is more power metal based before they went all epic and stuff.

The Epic the better is my take on Nightwish though . This still rules.

^^ Same here, My first Nightwish album as well. I remember my first time in the store, young and curious, just found it in a bin for 6 bucks. Changed my life and still an amazing album with every track a standout.
