yes but it was still kind of early on.....

Revisiting the catalogue, No Way Out still sounds mega. Atlanta takes on a much more somber feel now. RIP

"so tiny music is better than Core?"
Yeah, honestly is. I like Core, but it reminds me of other bands (mostly grunge bands) far too much instead of sounding unique, Tiny Music doesn't really have that problem except for sounding like The Beatles on Big Bang Baby, which seems more like a homage than unoriginality.
Purple is better than both anyway. My favorite STP song is still on Core though...

For me this is probably their best album after Purple. Atlanta, Sour girl, No way out and Down are all fantastic songs.
I was disappointed when Tiny music first came out but I must say it has greatly improved to me over the years, as for Core, well it's the one I go back to least, a great debut no doubt but they really found themselves with the second (and third/fourth) album imo.

This album has it all for me, it combines the power and energy of their debut with the more diverse elements of its successors to create a dark, dirty and heavy flow while at the same time remaining versatile and beautiful. For me it’s def the best STP and one of my all time favorites.

song writing not up to it though

This is a tired STP churning it out.

Nah, they were still inspired and full of energy.
Regarding the songwriting Doofus might have a point as it's kept more simple but is still very effective.

I get the feeling Weiland and the band were starting to pull in different directions here, Scott's solo album showed the sort of songs he'd write left to his own devices. This is a retreat to the safety of classic rawk after Tiny Music.
It's almost a 'spot the homage' album - The Doors, Bowie, The Stones, Alice in Chains, Nirvana etc and then a lot of the rest comes across as genre exercises (Sour Girl, I Got You) rather than spontaneous fun and invention

I really don't think they wanted to play it safe here but just wanted to sound more angry again after Tiny Music which they definitely succeeded in. To me this album always sounded very inspired and original and nothing like a rip-off or something like that.

Never heard Scott's solo album tbh. I always felt it would be a huge disappointment as the DeLeo bros were mainly responsible for songwriting in STP so I can't say much about it... Velvet Revolver and The Wildabouts were also weak compared to STP.

Decent album with a couple of great songs

Weiland himself said Velvet revolver was all about paying the bills, not stuff close to his heart and again the music was largely down to others. I liked the trippy vibe of Tiny Music and it really played to Scott's strengths, this isn't a rip-off but I think I'd say it's a little uninspired in places
'12 Bar Blues' is worth a listen if you quite like Bowie and 'Tiny Music'

Thanks for the rec, will surely check out. Sounds promising...
Part of my enthusiasm for this album might arise from nostalgia. I clearly remember buying this the day it came out and it just kicked in so hard. I was around 20 and played the hell out of it. Ah, good old days, nostalgia is always a force to be reckoned with.

We're the same age dude, got a bit of nostalgia for this but it wasn't one I played to death, will check out your other 90's ratings

Haha, always had the feeling I'm one of the oldest fcks around here. Glad to find some peers at least. Cheers to nostalgia!

I'm also another old fck who was young in the 90's!
I also recommend 12 bar blues, it's different from most STP and like Doofus said, if you like Tiny music, Bowie and are just a fan of Scott's awesome vocals then check it out!
This is a great watch, an STP live special from year 2000 (Sour girl single release) with q & a with fans between songs;

Finally heard this one, some great songs and a nice album overall but a bit of a step down from the momentum they had going on from the last couple of albums.

Really glad you found something to enjoy on here daniel. Maybe it will grow on you, this album needs time to breathe and reveal its full bouquet :]

Dan is spot on.

Nice one dav! Us 'old' boys have to stick together although if you were jamming this hard in '99 you must've been the uncoolest person on the planet.
