I think I may grow to love this song. I love the strange piano playing.

Well I just had to register to this site to add my comment here.

First, awesome review ! WOW

I have been a fan of X for over 10 years now. One thing you'll quickly realise is that even after 8 years of being disbanded, there are still many sites (and actually new ones) with discussions and info frequented by international fans.

The reason why X-japan is so impressive and addictive is probably the incredibly strong chemistry between its members. Yes Yoshiki is one heck a of drummer (and pianist and song writer and chef d'orchestre and buisness man.. the list goes on), both Pata and hide were very talented guitarists, Taiji (original bassist) was indeed aswesome and Toshi certainly has a very powerful voice (altough it is an acquired taste) BUT what makes this band stand out in the crowd of great talented musicians is the emotions that only them together can bring to us the listener.

Never before (and still to this day) have I heard so many mesmerizing compositions coming from a band. Sure DT are highly technical musicians with enormous talent but, to me and quite a lot of ppl, X as that little something that bests them somehow. It's not a fight between those bands or any other bands.. X simply as no equals. Listen to them carefully, learn to appreciate their subtleties. From my grand father to my youngest niece passing by die hard metal fans and metal music hater, I haven't found a single person who I couldn't get to at least like 1 song.

As explained in the above review, X were born at a time where the music industry in Japan was basically composed of cheap kitch popish copy band. They were rebels and they completely redefined music in Japan.

hide, the lead guitarist, died in May 1998. On his funeral day, central Tokyo was paralized because of fans walking all over the streets. His death was mentioned across the world in news paper and on TV. He influenced many artists, including some rather famous ones like Marlyn Manson.

Yoshiki is now releasing his first album since the death of hide in 1998. The album just came out today(March 23) in Japan. Other than that Yoshiki has been producing many artists worldwide and is litteraly an ambassador for Japan. Japan world's expo's theme song, held this year in Aichi was written and will be performed and conducted by Yoshiki himself for the grand opening day. In 2001, Yoshiki wrote a song for the Emperor's coronation and performed it with Japan's philharmonic orchestra.

I can go on and on about them, really I'd love to. If you want any songs from them, log onto soulseek tonight and for the rest of the week, I'm sharing their complete discography. If you want info about the band, feel free to contact me, I'll be more than happy to answer your questions. Please, do yourself a favour and discover this fantastic band.

Having downloaded this song I can honestly say that X Japan were the kind of band I wish I had. I'm in a pop/rock/prog band myself, and if my singer, drummer and keyboardist had half the talent these guys had, they'd be gods. But ultimately, it also comes down to interplay. The guitarists of X Japan sound to me like they are telepathically linked, playing in perfect counterpoint and harmony with each other. That is the kind of musical madness that really rocks my socks!

As an aside, I've heard some selected J-Pop bands, and can conclude that their pop is equal in "heaviness" to North American rock music. I can only imagine what they'd consider rock!

I'm listening to it right now... At the piano solo... it scares me... The dischords are very haunting... Impressive so far

His singing does put me a bit off though... He has a very strange pronounciation. The instrumentation is beautiful though, certainly an interesting listen (Which is impressive, considering the length of the track)

Thanks Iai! I heard about "Art of Life" a few years ago, but my friends told me they were the Japanese version of KISS, and considering I dont like Kiss, I didn't give this a chance. But thanks again Iai for clearing all that up This song is pretty damn amazing. It's hard enough to make a 5 min song interesting... this is 30 min and not a second is boring. This Message Edited On 07.31.05

Bartender featured it first. Then it was one of the first to be featured when the list on the left of the main page appeared. I thought it was you.
