You're right he didnt commit suicide until 1999. He joined the band, but didnt have enough time to learn the drum parts so Abbath just recorded them.

For some strange reason, I just cant get into raw black metal. I try and try, but for every cd and band (burzum, immortal), I just sorta delete it after 3 songs.
It has to have some sort of twist, like emperor is symphonic, or dimmu borgir puts mainstream elements into it, or cradle of filth making it more melodic.
all in all, I guess raw black metal is an aquired taste.

I wouldn't really call this raw black metal :x

Its sort of raw, but its not exactly something that would fit in with other raw black metal bands like Craft or Sargeist.

Wow this is fantastic. Might raise to a 4.5 but the album goes by two quickly and the songs tend to blend into each other a bit. Despite that I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing, I just don't remember any of it off the top of my head...

I´m afraid this is the reason why I didn´t want to listen old black metal. Probably the worst black metal image ever, musically is interesting just enough to be average

Album is good. Not as stellar as popular black metal culture makes it out to be.

I still really love this album, but its not my favorite Immortal album anymore. That would be At the Heart of Winter.

Ahh man, the black metal god, Hawks10, swoops in to tell me the truth about where the goods lie with this band ;). Thanks for the rec. I kind of found Sons of Northern Darkness to be a little boring though.

Well as you're probably expecting, I love Sons of Northern Darkness too lol. At the Heart of Winter is more blackened thrash than it is regular black metal.

That's kind of what Sons of Northern Darkness was but I've heard lots of good things about At the Heart of Winter.

Yeah most people would probably say that At the Heart of Winter is better. I'm listening to it right now actually.

Ever tried any doom metal on for size Hawks? I'm seriously starting to find more interest in that genre then this one hahaha.

Yeah I like doom. I was really into it a while ago. Haven't heard that many bands though. I like Ahab, My Dying Bride, Candlemass, and some early Anathema. Other than that I haven't heard much.

Wow, so you're into the old school doom, eh? I've been meaning to check out some more stuff by those bands (besides Ahab which I didn't really take too).
Go and check out any of rasputin's rec's. The albums he gives good ratings too (ie. Skepticism's Alloy, Esoteric's The Manical Vale) will totally rape your ass.

Yeah I wanted to check out that Skepticism album.
And I forgot I also listen to Draconian. I don't know how I forgot because they're probably my second favorite out of the doom that I've heard. This Message Edited On 01.24.09
