You know Jimmy, I think you'll find most psychedelic music is just wanking around. I quite like this album, but some of the jams can be a bit monotonous.
And where/when did the members of the band say they were ripping off the Beatles? Yes, they were both made at Abbey Road, but the styles of the two albums are really quite different. Pepper's is merely a pop album (A very good pop album). PATGOD is a true psychedelic record. The ideas behind the songwriting process of each band were different. Paul McCartney an John Lennon wrote catchy pop songs with devilishly addictive hooks. Pink Floyd wrote 9 minute trip-outs based around manic jam sessions. The plagiarism card just doesn't work for me.
Unless of course, Roger and the guys actually did admit to ripping them off, in which case my argument is complete balls.

Most every psychedelic band owes alot to the Beatles, but I don't see much resemblance, not to the degree you're speaking of. As he said^, you've got one band that writes hooks, and another one that drones on for twenty or so minutes.

since syd died i think that pink floyd should go on a tribute tour for him. in one of their sets, it would kick ass if they played all of piper in honor of syd

syd barrett may have been able to write good songs, but they were right to fire him. you cant have some as'shole standing on stage doing nothing

I know it seems unlikely but a tribute tour would be great.

If you understand that Piper isn't Dark Side, then yes, you should find this album great.

interstellar overdrive is the early echoes
|

This album is probably one of the better albums ever made. Its so strange, yet many of the melodies is so catchy and very much english late 60's pop, but way much better.
Lucifer sam might just have one of the best refrains ever. I dont think its the best floydalbum though, i like the really trippy floyd, around -71. Disc 2 (the live part) of Ummagummma cant be beated.
I dont like Dark side of the moon. Really overrated. So is the wall. It might be great rock albums, but it aint good floyd albums.

Intrestellar overdrive is more hendrix kind of freak out jam, and Echoes is much more sophisticated and delicate.
