I finally got this album. I've only listened to in the mist she was standing and about a third of under the weeping moon, but i can already say that i think this is one of my faovirte opeth albums, probably fourth out of the 8 albums (still life and bwp easily beat this, and ghost reveries might because of ghost of perdition)
goddamn, the intro to in the mist she was standning is pure sex....

Im not sure if anyone elsse posted this already, but that beginning acoustic part of "AIT" really was meant to be the end of "requeim." There was a mixing error. equiem wouldve been about the length of "silouette" and "AiT" would be shortened to about 11:30, so in that case you love "requiem" lol.
Not that it matters, i just felt like pointing that out. Love this album though.

^ Yes :D
This album's grown a lot on me since I got this together with Morningrise.
I don't know if it's the break with the post-Morningrise albums, but I'm slowly beginning to think their first two may be their best because for some reason I'm just coming back for more.
'Forest of October', 'Twilight Is My Robe' and 'The Apostle in Triumph' are top notch.

All of their albums are really good stuff! They don't put out crap, plain and simple. Best metal band ever (oh, the fanboy is loose on this message board). This Message Edited On 01.09.08

I really find the piano song "Silhouette" to be amazing. the first part is most likely one of my favorite piano riffs ever.
|
| |
yeah, Silhouette is really great. This is album could easily be a classic if the production wasn't so bad.

For some reason I feel this album is really underrated in Opeth's catalogue.
I will say that it does take time for it to grow on you. But you will find some great songs in this album. I think after 10 or more years people will realize how great this album is. It has a dreamlike atmosphere that their later albums don't have.
Has many great acoustic passages. It has some awkward changes that they later fix.
In Mist She Was Standing, and Forest of October are the highlights in the album. FoO has an amazing solo in the middle that hasnt been replicated since by Opeth, trully a great song.

This is their worst album, still pretty good, but it's bad for them.

You're probably right, but this is so mediocre compared to future albums.

Nah dude, it isn't mediocre by their standards, far from. Their songwriting might not be perfect on this album but it's got a really special vibe going on that their newer, more polished releases do not have.
|
| |
it's mediocre by any standard

It's a different type of album from later albums (except for Morningrise), so it isn't right to compare them. Morningrise is overall much better than this, but I still like it.
