Right.
Ratm wasnt that brilliant but ok, soundgarden were excellent. Audioslave are bloody fantastic as the cornell is much better in vocals then de la rocha. So therefore u get an excellent vocalist with brilliant ratm musicians. Album is brilliant, the 2 other bands at the past, this band is the real deal.

I guess I'm somewhat of an oddity here: I was never really a big Soundgarden fan (save a few songs) but I absolutely loved the sound that RATM brought to the table with albums like The Battle Of Los Angeles. Audioslave's debut was honestly one of the best albums I've listened to in a long while. I bought it as soon as I first heard Cochise and I was amazed by how many songs I actually liked on it. Normally you get three or four decent songs with one or two really good ones but this album delivered many hits in my mind. The lyrics are great, the riffs are amazing, and ,dispite what a majority of the people on here are saying, I actually like Cornell's voice, it's kind of a refresher after listening to Zach and his progressively whiney voice (just in my opinion there, no need to get angry).

I think you just have to be open to many forms of music to like this cd but once you do then songs like Gasoline, Like A Stone, What You Are, Cochise, and I Am The Highway will blow your mind. Yes, it's a big change from RATM but isn't every band always changing their sound? You have to get used to it eventually.

I wish Morello would solo more melodically rather than using sounds. Heck, in a recent guitar mag, he said himself he got sick of it.
This album is alright, but some of the songs just seem too repetitive. Cornell sounds awesome, except for a weird clearing sound in "What You Are". Tim sounds as good as he did on Rage's final release. Brad keeps the time going well, and Morello gives some catchy guitar riffs, as always.
It just didn't do for me what the second album did. I like "I am the Highway" most, simply because it has a nice mellow tone to it and it DOES sound different from RATM. It's a song I don't hear any repetiveness on, like "Like a Stone" and "Shadow on the Sun".
I'd give it about a 3 because of my own reasons regarding repetiveness and guitar technique, but it was a good start for the band.

i was just wondering if anyone else thought that the main riff in cochise sounded like the beginning of bombtrack...?

Sometimes, when I'm taking a dump, I could swear I'm hearing Cornell singing for Audioslave. He... is awful.

The guitars in Audioslave are about 8 steps down from RATM for Morello, which is disappointing, and it's all boring, standard trash.

This album will be forgotten in 10 years. And it'll only last that long because of Morello's and Cornell's fame, and the fanboy following that'll hang from their nuts for a little while.

I think Audioslave just make generic rock. Nothing really over the top or special or even worth listening to more than once. Sans 'Like a Stone.' I've got a soft spot for that song.

I think this album's great and you people are never satisfied! Stop comparing it to RATM and Soundgarden! Just give it a chance for godsake. The songs they've come up with totally rock in my opinion and maybe, yes, they do sound a bit like RATM without the vocals, but they're really good. It's a certain style you wont find anywhere else. Besides, RATM are finished, it's time to move on. They've all moved on as musicians and created a new album. Stop wallowing in the past, stop complaining! Please! This Message Edited On 08.31.05

I dunno if it is all entirely fair on the band to compare them to RATM I think there still finding their feet and when they do then I think that's when as a cohesive unit playing together Audioslave will be a really good band. That aside I think Like a stone Show me how to live and cochise show the potential are really good . I think Tom's playing hasn't diminished one bit

I love this album, although I thought there were a few fillers. "Set It Off" is an awesome song. The lighter stuff ("I Am The Highway" and "Like A Stone") is really good (and IMO as good as the heavy stuff too). Just a totally awesome album you need to buy if you do not have it.
