Look some of you people are wrong, first off Vera isnt about Pinks estranged girlfriend!
Its about the comparison of what Vera Lynn sang about (We Would meet again...) and how that was the complete opposite. Second The Wall Is partly about Syd Barrett, on Nobody Home (a phrase for someone whos gone mad) it talks about his comming into insanity. Also during the movie they had to carry Pink on stage to his gig, so did Roger Waters and some other guy had to with Syd.

Ezrin also helped Gilmour write some songs on his solo album, as well as on The Divison Bell.
Vera Lynn was an english popstar popular around the time of World War II. Men in the British army listened to her a fair amount, hence the reference. The Wall is not not not about Syd Barret. It's about Roger Waters. Waters' father died in World War II, Waters considered himself a burt-out rockstar. WYWH was about Syd, The Wall was NOT.
Yeah, I really think of the Wall as one song so it was hard for me to rate them individually.
As for the lyrics, Waters wrote all of the Wall. Gilmour wrote most of the music with him, however.
You don't pay attention.
Gilmour only worked on Comfortably Numb, Run Like Hell, and Hey You. Read the credits in the album or movie. Another Brick in the Wall (Part I) is about his father.
Anyway, this review was alright, but could have gone into more depth describing the emotional quality. That is the whole point, you know. At least this was better than your Animals review. It really didn't do justice to such a great album, in my opinion.

yes the wall is mainly about roger waters life but there are little tidbits of stuff about syd barret, and if your still not convinced pick up a book called:
Another Brick In The Wall, Stories Behind Every Pink Floyd Song by Cliff Jones
The song Nobody Home is a song about Syd and Rick because at the time Rick had a cocaine problem and syd was of course already incapacitated.
quote from book:
"But as he (Roger Waters) worked on the narrative, the story became much more personal as Roger Waters developed the story of alienation into an auto biographical composite picture of Syd Barret and his own recent experience"
so Pink is basical Roger and Sy mixed in one

so, u love this album alot, but do not care for many of the songs....confusion

:thumb: When carefully listened to this is an EXCELLENT album :thumb: , especially if you listen to it after watching the movie a couple of times. There are alot of elements from Roger Waters's life, references to Syd Barret, but the main idea is about the descent in isolation of every human being, the results are different from person to person, in pink's case ( Main character in the movie) they are dramatic. the album explains how the kid, pink, starts to isolate himself from others because he fears people are gonna hurt him, the same way his mother, wife or schoolmaster could hurt him. The troubled man ,after falling in drug addiction starts dreaming of a world where he is the dictator of Britannia where everybody is from the same "race", everybody identical to him bla bla bla this finally leads to a trial between himself where they TEAAAAARR DOWWWWN THE WALLLLL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
(btw..i think Wish you were here, Shine on you crazy diamond are also about Syd Barret )

one of my turns is everything right and wrong with the album. the tones in the song are the ones found in the whole album. never once happy, bitter, insane, and others. the solo really sums up the tone of the album. as do the lyrics. the opening sound effects delve deeper into the story, as well as the sound effects scattered around the song itself. its short (not that long pink floyd songs are bad mind you). but again there are sometimes too many lyrics he doesnt wanna shutup and let the music carry you over. it drags the only intresting part of the song is where it starts to pick up. waters howling on this track suits the tone but can be truly annoying. this and some others personaly i listen to this song all the time when i listen too the wall. not one of the best but worth checking out. like the wall.

Is There Anybody Out There
Another sort of filler track. The guitar line almost sounds like the James Bond theme. Not particularly note-worthy.
4/10

i thought i was the only person in the world who thought that.
Good Review, though i didnt agree with some of your song ratings...

what about meddle?
i like that album more than animals

This is a disgrace. Youve downplayed every song that has no commerical value. Your comment: "Waters' voice is strong and pure" on Hey You is halarious being that Gilmour sings up to the final verse where Waters yelps his high notes like usual. For your information its Waters singing most of Run Like Hell and he wrote the lyrics for it not Gilmour. Better luck next time.

You rated some of these songs way too low.

Good review, contrasts nicely to the other review. Yours being about the music, the other being about the concept.
Good job

I've always felt that the first disc is full of great songs, but I really dislike a lot of songs on the second disc. They focus too much on making the music around the concept. That's the problem with lots of concept albums IMO. The first disc of The Wall is probably my favourite Floyd album, but when you add on the second disc it probably becomes my least favourite overall.

you just put a fucking 10/10

For Paranoid Policeman, Bob Ezrin was one of the chief sound engineers in this album, and played a large part in the creation of the Wall set for the Wall concerts, (as heard on Is there anybody out there) and the Wall movie in the animation and puppetry sequences, as well the video for Another Brick In The Wall Part Two that was spawned from this movie.

The Wall is my favorite album period. Its simply amazing.
I dont see why you rated "Is There Anybody Out There" a 4. Its a great song. It is simple, but great. In my opinion there isnt 1 song on this CD that deserves even less than a 5/10.

Bloody awful. Boring Floyd at its best.

I like a handful of tracks from Dark Side of the Moon. but that's about as far as my affection for Pink Floyd goes. Seriously, Wish You Were Here is amazingly dull.

I don't know about that. There's "Eclipse", and "Time" (granted, if you skip the three-minute bore-fest of an intro).
I honestly don't get what is so spectacular about Floyd. Except Gilmour. Brotha s'got sum soul, yo.
