So, this becomes a tad tedious upon repeat exposure, huh? Gladly, I'm not there yet. Unlike 'Blood Mountain', I kinda see this one as an all or nothin proposition. As soon as I put on 'Rays on Pinion', I feel obligated to listen all the way through....You? Same thing with this Giant Squid that I'm talking up. Once you start it, one feels compelled to listen onward to the end. Neither are somethin you want to listen to on 'random' either. Both have that kinda concept album feel to 'em. Gnome sane?

i absolutely LOVE Mastodon, especially blood mountain, so in that case, i'm assuming you'd recommend this to me moltenlava?

Granted this album is fantastic ...but listen to it too much and you will find it becomes tedious and that is why IMO this will only ever be a good album and not excellent or superb.

Oh, most definitely, friend. This album is a 'must hear' for anyone who digs Mastodon. Whether you like or not is a different story. But, it's gotta be heard. It's so deliciously convoluted in real subtle ways. I'm actually thinking that it might even be better than Blood Mountain. But, then there's the longevity thing that Wizard and HeadCharge123 speak of. Either way, it's worth picking up. And, I would also sincerely consider the 'Giant Squid' I mentioned. I kinda lump all three albums together because there's noticeable similiarities in direction. And there's a better than fair chance that if you like one, you'll like 'em all. As, a fourth, I'd call attention to anything by Pelican.

Giant Squid is good, but not really like either band.
Baroness's EPs are even better.

I'm gonna check Giant Squid out soon

I do like the material on the two Baroness EPs, BUT, we've already heard that very same stuff out of dozens of bands prior. It's good, but not vital. And, not very different from what came before it. 'The Red Album' on the other hand is a tremendous jump in growth. In fact, most people wouldn't be able to even tell it's the same group.

Have you heard the unperson's split? It's my favorite release by them.

No. I'm only familiar with ONE and TWO. You're kidding. There is no Unperson's Slit.

Oh, snap! How did that little phucka elude me all this time? I thought that there was only 'One' and 'Two' before 'Red'. Cool, now I have more great music to explore. I'm gunna ask you if this 'Unpersons' came before the two EPs I just mentioned, BUT, I know, it would actually make more sense if it came after because of the wide GULF in direction between the two EPs and 'Red'. So, which is it?

I think it came out right before Red Album.

Oh, now that I look, this recording is an actual SPLIT/ with another band's music. There's only two Baroness tracks on the dang thing. That's rather weak.

Oh, I wouldn't go that far, mate. Didn't ya hear? Thing doesn't have a high replay value. Not a'tall Gets weaker with each spin. That's what Wizard and HeadCharge123 been sayin'. You get the CD and apparently the batteries are half drained when you open the package. By the next morning all the juice is gone.
