This is definately one of the best 2007 albums, it's kind of hard to get into, but it is just brillinat, just listen to it carefully and you'll notice the masterpiece this album is, it kicks arse!

Rays On Pinion has got to be one of the top 10, maybe even top 5, best songs of last year.

nice review. i ordered this the other day, having only heard wanderlust. and if that song's boring compared to the rest of the album, then i'm expecting something pretty fucking good!

I thought the album artwork was similar to Deliver Us actually.

Now I know why. I might check this out, looks pretty interesting. I'm a big Mastodon and Isis fan too.

If you have listened to First or Second EP then you will realize how terrible this album really is compared to the EP's. Huge disappointment.

I really enjoy this so don't take what I'm about to say out of context but...if these guys really buckle down and focus for their next release they're gonna make something really epic.

I usually shun bands that sound like they are blatantly attempting to copy someone else's winning formula. And, although the Mastodon influence here is immense, there's still enough of 'Baroness' present here to make this one a keeper. The scary thing about this particular monument to musical mimicry is that Baroness might have actually pulled off a truly formidable feat and delivered a product that is even superior to the very thing they're trying to emulate. This album actually might be sligthly better than 'Blood Mountain' itself. At least, it's in the same ballpark. The music here isn't quite as heavy as that masterful recording, but the ideas are more complex and intellectually compelling. And, that's no small task, because the last Mastodon offering was pure genius. Still, the core sound behind the new Baroness album belongs to Mastodon and the awe and reverence really belongs to them. If you find yourself loving this album, do yourself a favor and check out Giant Squid's Metridium Fields. There's similarities between the two recordings, without Squid also sounding like another Mastodon clone. Whatever folks are calling this new sub-genre, I think it's the most important direction going on in modern Metal at present. You'll definitely be needing all three albums mentioned here.

This album is so ridiculously good, I want to hump it. I just want to hump all over it. For whoever's out there diggin' hard on this band's full length debut, please be sure to also get your grubby mitts on the first one from Giant Squid, called 'Metridium Fields'. Wow! Both are 4.5 recordings. No diz-oubt. These two bands, while not borrowing from each other, are at least on the same page, musically. It's a fairly progressive new approach for melodic, doom-laden, Hard Rock. Twhat? What the heck would ya call this sub-genre anyway? I guess all of this stuff descends from Mastodon and Isis, right? I'm listening to 'Pelican' right now and they're pretty much on the same page too. Definitely be checkin' out Giant Squid and Pelican if you like what Baroness has done on 'Red'. If you do, you too might also be overcome with the uncontrollable desire to hump these records.

Mastodon pwn Baroness ...this is a good listen initially but becomes a bit boring over time.

Both Blood Mountain and Leviathan are better albums.
