Review Summary: Do you like the song "Always on my Mind?" Or maybe "It Had Better Be Tonight?" Well, Buble's third album is the place to look.

Presently, many people will choose to buy a pop CD off the rack instead of a jazz album. With Michael Buble's new album, Call Me Irresponsible, many people will think twice before ignoring a jazz album.

As soon as one places Buble's third album into their CD player, one is at once taken over by the opening lines of "The Best Is Yet To Come," sang in a cappella initially, then accompanied by a piano and a snap of fingers. And that pretty much sums the rest of the song--upbeat, jazzy, and lively. Soon "It Had Better Be Tonight (Meglio Stasera)" begins, and once again Buble sings marvelously, and most importantly: it sounds sincere.

The next three covers, "Me And Mrs. Jones," "I'm Your Man," and "Comin' Home Baby" truly help show what levels Buble can reach with his emotion. For instance, in "I'm Your Man" Buble sings to enamourate his beloved. The words that he sings sound so completely honest that it leads one to believe if Buble truly did not write this song on his own, forcing the listener to open up the lyric booklet to check--unfortunately the song is a cover from Leonard Cohen... but who cares when Buble sings it oh so much better?

The two original songs in the album, "Lost" and "Everything," go to places where none of his covers have ever gone. "Lost" could be dedicated to anyone: a heartbroken girl who feels alone, a man who lives alone, a widow left forlorn after the death of her husband... yes, the song is about loneliness! But Buble encourages telling them "you're not lost" and that you truly are not "alone."

"Everything" on the other hand, could easily be Buble's best song to date. His lyrics are simple and easy to fall in love with: "You're the swimming pool/On an August day..." and "And I can't believe/That I'm your man/And I get to kiss you baby/Just because I can."

As the album closes, one can believe that Buble will cover more songs and close it with a punch--well you would be sadly mistaken. Though "I've Got The World On A String" is actually a standout in Call Me Irresponsible (mainly for its jazz sound and background chorus), the album closes with a ballad version of Elvis Presley's "Always on my Mind," the uplifting and joyful "That's Life," and the mellow "Dream." Though the album does not close with a "punch," truly after listening to Call Me Irresponsible, you'll be left with a smile on your face... at the very least.

It's realy not. It's just his first review.

Welcome to the site, next time you write a review, it should be longer, but you can edit your reviews by clicking the link on the bottom of your profile pic. Not too bad for a first review, you should just talk more about the record. It's good that you like a record so much, but you should give a little more detail as to why. Keep that up, and you'll be a regular in no time man.

You've got a tough crowd to impress here. All you need is to just beef everything up, the song descriptions, the context (but not necessarily). All you really need as a beginner is here: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/forums/showthread.php?p=15139925#post15139925

Thanks plane, that's pretty cool. As much as I disagree with the review, it would probably be pretty well written if there were to be a bit more detail.

I got the feeling that people who would generally prefer a pop album wouldn't mind Michael Buble's jazz stigma. He was in a Starbucks commercial after all. And judging by the commercial, I don't care if his voice is better, he shouldn't be covering Leonard Cohen. Judging by Leonard Cohen's last CD, Leonard Cohen shouldn't be covering Leonard Cohen anymore.

My personal mantra: never trust a review when the reviewer's name is an obvious reference to the album/artist/song.

The 007 ain't helping either.

Michael Buble and Jazz shouldn't ever be in the same sentence, unless the sentence is "Michael Buble sucks at attempting jazz"

Yes the review was sub par, and needs improvement. But we really need more people like you. I'm not kidding. Sputnik is defined by Metal, Indie, and Prog, and a tiny Smidgen of Rap, but other than that, it seems like barely anybody has pop on their pie chart, the more diverse sputnik gets, the better. There's no way in hell this album and most of the other albums you have at 5 are truly 5's, and you should listen to an album a whole bunch of times before reviewing.

You do need to describe the actual music, rather than the lyrics, mood, or the way a song makes you feel. A review should mainly be in second and third person. and yeah, if I were you, i'd change the username to something more original. Because a lot of us are assholes, and a lot of people won't take you seriously unless you are a little more objective with your reviews and ratings.

But you're not a t-b-t'er, so that's already an advantage. Try and do a few more negative reviews. Negative reviews usually show how skilled you are at reviewing, and you can only get better. That's all the advice I can think of.

I was about 15 or 16 when the album after this was released, all the girls in my class heard it to death. My ex-girlfriend tried to get me back while playing this. Worst attempt ever, lol.
