i love how this album doesn't even feel electronic. i'm trying to learn how to make my music this organic sounding.

he's a musical genius. that's how

one of the tools he uses to have that effect is by having vinyl hiss. That makes it feel warm. Also integrating R&B samples becuase that gives it soul and a voice while still being electronic becuase it's a sample; gives it a sense of mystery

yeah, i read in an interview that he doesn't even use a drum sequencer. his drums are slightly off time which adds to the whole organic feel. that could turn out bad if you didn't know what you were doing, but obviously he does and it works well for him.

i really don't like using samples for some reason though. for some reason it just makes me feel dirty or something, lol. i don't want to feel like i'm stealing someone else's work, i want my music to be all mine.

yeah but by sampling a human voice you give a human identity to a bunch of beats.

that's true. i like the sound of it a lot of the time, i just don't really agree with it ethically. although burial does do it very well i have to say.

it's not like i hate guys that do it, i just wouldn't do it myself. i don't really dig his stuff much
to be honest. i've only listened to a few tracks but i thought it was kind of boring :/

"I wasn't into anything that even resembled this style of music when I first heard this - but it intrigued me. I guess it might take the right environment and atmosphere (I always think rain or night driving [or both] are the best for this), but for me it was just about a persistent curiosity. I wanted to know why people loved it and I was interested in it to an extent, so I just listened and listened until I finally understood what I was listening to. It opened up my tastes up quite a bit, but it certainly took some very focused and introspective listens before I really was digging everything on here."
pretty much my exact experience with this album

okay so i'm listening to this laying on my bed and it's sunny out, is that why i don't get this at all? it just seems kind
of...ambient.
edit: okay nevermind i got myself in a better place for this album and it's really cool, pretend this never happened
