The CD is pretty bad, but it still makes some kind of sense. It's not like the initial off-stage intention of the band, so to speak, really shows through the music and it really shouldn't be judged. Having Plath rate both Atreyu's new album and this a 1 kind of takes away from his credibility.

It's a terrible album, with atrocious transitions from melodic to grundge, the guitarist often tries to hard; it fuckin sounds like a anime soundtrack.. horrible.

umm, wow. Like i wasn't the biggest city of evil fan, but this makes City of Evil look like Lateralus. Most of the things in this album i like are just because they're so ridiculous or funny or whatever. I guess its not terrible, but its definitely not something i'll be listening to often, or ever again for that matter
Sorry Zoo Yorker. I didn't know you were so mature. Lets meat up some time and drink coffee at Starbucks and wear fancy cloths and talk about politics and stuff. P.S the Yankees can SmyD.
P.S. My user name refers to the company Zoo York. I live on Cape Cod and am a long time Red Sox fan. So, the Yankees can SmyD as well.

I really never thought I'd give an Avenged Sevenfold album below a 2.5. This is trash. Lost, the first half of Critical Acclaim, and the last parts of Afterlife are the only things on here that save it from a 1.

This is a poor attempt to replicate it.
Except for the fact that this sounds nothing like City of Evil.

"City of Evil was a good album. This is a poor attempt to replicate it"
Are you fucking kidding me? They made it clear that they were NOT making City of Evil or Waking the Fallen again. They set out to create an album that would break boundaries and push their songwriting to new limits. And while most of the songs aren't all too fantastic, it's definately great to see a band try so many new things on one album. They wanted an album that would sound different than anything else and would get reactions like:
"It's a terrible album, with atrocious transitions from melodic to grundge, the guitarist often tries to hard; it ****in sounds like a anime soundtrack.. horrible"
That's exactly what they were aiming for. It could have been better but I comend them for bringing country, electronica, and Oingo Boingo together on one album. I look forward to the next one, hopefully they can pull it off a little better and up their lyrics from a 6th grade english class.

1? I understand that this album isn't good, but that seems prejudiced to me. This album does have its moments.

hegster, I don't think they were looking to be compared to an anime soundtrack while they were writing this.

Well i didn't mean that precisely haha. Just that they wanted to utterly confuse/disgust people who expected another full on metal album. What other recent albums can you say got compared to an anime soundtrack??
I can no longer take this review seriously though. Coming from the guy that gave Britney Spears' new album a 4. I still have to give it a listen, but you can't blame me for being a little skeptical. And the guy who posted on that review was right. Stop pretending you're writing for Rolling Stone.

Horrible album. Great review. Only great thing these guys ever made was STST, after that, all downhill. Oh, and fanboys suck.

9 throwaway songs
1 very good one though - A Little Piece of Heaven. I don't really care how little of it is from the band itself, a good song is a good song. The lyrics are balls-to-the-wall godawful, but I'm able to tolerate that because hey, I listen to power metal. Catchy all the way through, the first real scream (even though it's not from the vocalist) from the band since WTF, lots of neat instrumentals. Take out the fact that this song is from Avenged Sevenfold, and how terrible the rest of the album is, and how you're embarrassed of listening to it once you read the lyrics, and you have a fantastic 8 minutes of music.
Yeah, that sole song justifies the 2.5. The rest suck. This band's dead.

Unfortunately, I must admit that this album is by far their worst....
Brompton Cocktail
Afterlife
Gunslinger
Unbound
The only songs really even worth listening to, even tho "A Little Piece of Heaven" is catchy at times too, but overall just annoying...
I'm pretty much pissed off at Avenged right now, even tho they are my favorite band...City of Evil I can support, it may not be the metalcore that I like, but it sounded reasonably decent...this...ehh, not so much...
Critical Acclaim wouldve been genius.
If they stopped after the first 2 minutes.
And probly if they took off that first political rant too
idk
the soft part and solo didnt fit at all
Almost Easy=Mainstream Garbage
One of the worst songs on the album
Scream
Catchy at first
but theres really nothing to make you listen to it much
it sounds decent the first couple of times
gets old rlyyyy fast
Afterlife
Personally my favorite from the album probably
Its pretty great
Gunslinger
Is amazing.
I dont give a fuck what you say
Unbound
Catchy
good to listen to if you wanna just jam
but gets old fast
kinda annoying
Brompton Cocktail
I take it back
this is my fav off the album
by far the best
Lost
Ehh, decent
vocals suck
especially when they tried that synth. shit during the Chorus
A Little Piece of Heaven
fun to listen to
i guess
Dear God
terrible
cliche
mainstream
country
ewwwwwwwwww
Avenged was and still is my favorite band.
Simply because Waking the Fallen was by far the greatest album ever created.
I also enjoyed alot of Sounding the Seventh Trumpet
and quite a bit from City of Evil
however, there is very little good to be found in this new album
each song has its moments of brilliance, of course
but the songs as a whole, are terrible
so yeah....
umm
just thought id get this out there
see who agrees
A7X has so much talent, and if they built off what they did on WTF and even COE, theyd be in a muchhhhh better position right now...i now understand why theyve lost so many fans, and gained so many fake ones.
Im not stopping being an Avenged fan.
Because their old stuff is amazing.
Im just refusing to listen to this garbage.

i'm a big a7x fan, but imo this album was just so mediocre. i was expecting a combination of waking the fallen + city of evil, but i got something which sounded like a city of evil b-sides or something. however, there are some good songs there: critical acclaim (which is more like their previous album), unbound (the wild ride) (excellent piano and voice back-up), brompton cocktail (i just like it, don't ask me why) and a little piece of heaven (awesome symphony). the rest of the album is so regular for a7x (except for dear god, which is awful and a pretty bad ending)...i expected much much more from these guys this time...now i doubt if i'll but their next cd.

Litox, never expect to hear what a band says their next album will sound like. 99.9% of the time they are full of shit.
