I feel similarly to the earlier post. Even if The Bends has some amazing songs I prefer all the full-lengths they did starting with OKC to it and PH.

right Bends as a whole is kind of iffy by this point but the songs I like from it, I fucking love

At the end of the day I believe your opinion on the Bends compared to the rest of their discography depends largely on how you value songwriting versus experimentation. The Bends isn't pushing any musical boundaries but it's an extremely consistent and emotive collection of rock songs. It's not as unique as what came after it but from an emotional perspective it's just as affecting as any of their later works and the songs are still extremely well written.
