its good, but little less symphonic which i really liked about them... and i don't like the new vocalist's voice nearly as much. though i've only heard the single.

I really like The poet and the pendulum a lot, but other than that.... thought the songs were pretty average. They're metal roots seem to be almost gone now.

Every good metal band sells out and plays non-faggoty music eventually.

So I got over myslef and decided to listen to this. Pleasant surprise, very good album. I know most of u like the other vocalist better, but I like the new chick much more. Considering my music taste, that isn't a surprise. This Message Edited On 10.21.07

I finally got around to listening to this album... I guess low expectations can yield positive reactions, cause this album isn't bad. It's heavier then older stuff, the songs are better, the male vocals are only slightly annoying instead of completely unbearable, the ballads aren't as boring and the new female vocalist is better too. I may actually buy this eventually.

The full album is available to stream on the MP3.com website if you want to give it another chance... but if the female vocals don't do it for you, then there's probably no reason.

With the exception of 1-2 songs, the album really sucks.....I never like Nightwish very much, I really appreciated their last album though, but this one.....I don't know....boring!!!

I've never been a huge fan of Nightwish, although I've enjoyed the instrumentation, I've never liked Tarja (I feel she tries waaaay too hard to be operatic). I'll admit that the band and this new album isn't the same without her, however I think it's silly how so many fans blame Annette for the album's loss. Worse, so many die-hard fans I've known have suddenly shunned Nightwish out of their music collections. =|

Nightwish demolishes LC. I don't even understand how a comparison between the two could arise.
And if you're new to Nightwish (and not a biased fanboy), you'd understand how much of a disappointment this album was.

LOL...I don't think this was a disappointment at all, and I am not a biased fanyboy. (Just because my name is a Nightwish song, doesn't make me a fanboy for the WHOLE album....I just love the song)
But I do agree that older Nightwish is better overall than the new Nightwish. This just owns musically though. Once is still their best overall release (It doesn't have a bad song on it), but this is really good.

Once is vastly overrated. As good as it is, it's not perfect, doesn't have the same replay factor that Oceanborn has. That album is solid, far better than their newer releases. Also, Century Child is crimminaly underrated, and in my opinion better than Once.

I actually like Once almost as much as Oceanborn. They're pretty close, imo. Century Child is quite underrated, I agree.

My point exactly. :D And I wasn't referring to you, specifically, as a biased fanboy.

Oceanborn is indeed an excellent album, but Once for me is just superior. Maybe because I consider myself a symphonic metalhead. Once is the first album I heard from them, and is the only true perfect album I've heard. If Sputnik gave like 5.5 ratings, it would be my only one, lol.
As for Century Child, it's great too...In fact Nightwish doesn't have a bad album, lol.
