| Summary: An odd addition to my Ambient Melodic Black Metal section... Scratch that, this sucks. |
1 of 1 thought this review was well written
When I listened To Verräterischer, Nichtswürdiger Geist I was unimpressed by the untrained vocals, the dumbed down guitar, and drums.
Through later listening I almost cried by how genius the instrumental tracks are! The songs that really blew me away were In den weiten öden Räumen, Trauerhöhle and Verflucht das Blenden der Erscheinung.
in spite of not not understanding the lyrics I can feel the emotion in the vocal melodies. In Verräterischer, Nichtswürdiger Geist the Synth is used to harmonize with the rough and distorted vocals. You would think that the poor sound quality was the fuzz you hear in most songs but that is the Synth working with the guitar and vocals.
I looked up the band when I started this review and discovered that there is no bass in Verräterischer, Nichtswürdiger Geist.

Dunkel, still von Ewigkeit
The first track of the album, It is an instrumental orchestration.
The orchestration on this album is top notch and is what a lot of Black Metal should feature. The orchestral percussion is present and works with the low brass, woodwinds, and string instruments.
The instrumental tracks are much better than the normal tracks because production value and overall quality.
Most of the track is quiet but plays dark angry themes, the highlight is the combination of orchestra bass and violins, an excellent opener!
Ragnarök Mystiker
A rather annoying song with the singing.
The biggest problem I have with this track is that the singers voice turns into an awful shriek sometimes.
That isn't the worst though, the dumbed down guitars and drums are the real problem. The song doesn't change much at all, Ambience should have some turns once in a while.
Gespinnst des Verderbens
A great improvement from the last song. This has a similar structure, but has a 3/4 time signature so it changes like my previous wish.
The guitar is different from the past track but has the same drum pattern with a fill in tom strike.
The vocals aren't much different but are original in style. There are many Alexi Laihos and a dozen Ville Valos but this singer sounds like no one else I've ever heard.
Another great thing is that the riffs sound middle Eastern in a way.
Trauerhöhle
The best track off this album, It is another orchestration.
This track shows that Urfaust has a genius arranger and composer.
This song is excellent for anything that needs suspense.
It has a good German/Russian style which it perfect for Dark music. Each section voices so you hear changing parts, this song picks up where the others leave off.
Verflucht das Blenden der Erscheinung
One of the more interesting songs with vocals,.
You hear the singers tortured shriek near the beginning and also hear laughter, that was obviously used to make a stoner feel along with heavy and slow keyboard work. This is the heaviest song and yet it is psycadelic.
I don't like part of this song because it is very repetitive and sounds like nonsense. The emotion in the singers voice is immense as if he was really in pain.
Der Gottesverächter
Finally some melody from such a bad singer!
Again repetitive guitar and drums from this band. The vocals in this song are so painfully horrible! But at least he has some melody and originality. there is not much going on this song so I will move on to the last track off Verräterischer, Nichtswürdiger Geist. But again the production value is cheap so I have to take points from that.
In den weiten öden Räumen
In my opinion this the second best off the record, it is another Orchestration and the last good song off here, like the last instrumental the different themes change along with the keys and sections.
Everything about the orchestrations is so perfect and is why this album is over a 2.5/5. In the vocal equipped songs there is bad vocals and bland rhythms, The orchestrations are genius because there are bad song to make good songs sound even better.
The Good:
Orchestrations
The Vocals sound like nothing I have heard before.
I don't know the lyrics so I can never know if the lyrics are immature or bad.
The lack of understandable lyrics makes you focus more on melody.
Synth is the best thing to replace bass.
Vocals show true emotion.
The bad:
The singing is terrible is most songs.
The production value is worse than a high school demo.
Guitar riffs.
Rhythm
Drums sound the same in three songs.
Decent for a classical listener on some songs, but other than that, terrible.
