After taking a music history class this semester, I really want to get into baroque, classical, and romantic music.
But like, who do I listen to? Who plays Beethoven's/Berlioz's symphonies the best? Chopin's lieders? Bach's cantatas? Vivaldi's and the younger Bach's concertos?

Dont know about Chopin and the others but Beethoven i would go with Karajan or Kleiber as the conductor

karajan is an awful starting point and i'd look at the whole baroque and early to mid classical period before going into beethoven anyway

barenboim, järvi, harnoncourt, abbado, davis are good and should have recordings of all the standard repertoire
don't worry about orchestras, the conductors did that already

Just the best symphony of all time, therefore the greatest music composition ever made. Dvoraks 9th, Schubert 9th and Mahler 9th are close but not close enough.

Classical here on Sputnik is underrated. This is just the top of the iceberg of the classical masterpieces. In a sense, this is mainstream.
