calm down people. It was a good review but i dissagree. Smashing pumpkins are great. they have some awesome albums, this one tends to be more average tho. not bad at all.

The reviews that complain about Smashing Pumpkins changing lineups and "its not the same band!" irritate me.

Outside of that; it wasn't half bad. But big friggin deal they changed members.

His defense to a 2 was "it doesn't sound like the Pumpkins."

THAT'S my problem. You quoted me as saying things I never said, and said my review wasn't half bad, but you still negged me. And you were the ONLY one; everyone else who rated it thought it was a good review.

Concidence? Anyways.

P.S. YOU said I troll voted.

"By the way, the troll voting angelfire doesn't really bother me; just don't do it anymore or I will report it. I've already been banned for doing it myself; and it kind of pisses me off."

"This is not the Pumpkins that fans “Adore”-d this past decade. In fact, Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, who joined Corgan for his short-lived supergroup side project, Zwan, are all that remain of the original group. They are also the sole performers on the multi-dimensional record (easy enough when artists in the studio and can record one musical layer of a song at a time). It would appear that Corgan thinks he’s the basis of Smashing Pumpkins, and he’s probably right. After all, who else has that signature awkward wailing geek-goth voice? Corgan’s demeanor reeks of self-assurance bordering on conceit, while his voice sounds like an unsure, insecure and humble plea for attention.
In fact, he could probably go solo if he took the time to learn the drums. Then he could get rid of Chamberlin and rename the band Smashing Pumpkin."

Case closed.

I don't know if you heard... but, uh. He did go solo after the Smashing Pumpkins broke up.

I know this album isn't very good but I still find myself repeating it over and over again

I agree with virtually all your points; I wish I'd read it before I wrote my review; I think I alluded to some of the same. It is a decent album though, I think it rates more than a two.

It just shouldn't be a Pumpkins album!

What a silly argument. I just see it as a difference of opinion, the review was very well written and that's all there is to it.

Tut.

That was a great review, I voted.
I listened through the album three times and that was enough for me. The pumpkins were lost about the time Corgan lost his hair (keep in mind he had hair during the recording of Melon Collie, he got rid of it after its release).

Well, i think your review is okay and voted positively. I do not agree for the most but i can understand your opinion (wich was mine the first time i heard Zeitgeist).

But two sentences irritate me:

“For God and country I’ll fight, for God and country I’ll die, for God and country my soul is alive,” Corgan confesses on the eleventh track, aptly titled “For God and Country.” The album cover, a blood-red illustration of the Statue of Liberty hip-high in water, is even a stark allusion to global warming.

For the first, IMO, i think you understood all the song in the wrong way. Maybe you missed this part :

"well who needs this anymore?

c'mon make it so

that's when they build their cross of death

you won't build your own

it's time to wake up!

it's time to wake up for good

i can't help you though i should"

So all the rest of the song should be taken ironically...

For the second, and as a graphic designer, I think your analysis is a bit, hum... litteral. You're right of course about the global warming, and the SP presence to Live 8 echoes that. But you can also have a more symbolic reading of this image: you never show the symbol of the USA drawning without a reason.

All my apologies for my poor english skills.

Hey Jak 1980:

I realize this is a bit late, but hopefully you will read it...Corgan had actually said in a magazine interview that the cover and "For God and Country" were about global warming. His own words, not mine. :-)
