Sure, this album was alot like their old stuff, but that doesnt mean it sucks. I thought it was actually pretty awesome. There were alot of slow and sadder songs, which im not a big fan of. I didnt like the whole album, but songs like...

-Walking Disaster
-Speak of the Devil
-Count Your Last Blessings
-The Jester
-Confusion and Frustration in Modern Times
...were good.

Quite personally, I fucking hated Chuck with a passion. That was not Sum 41. They had some emo bastard write their songs for them which sucked. There was maybe three good songs on that album.

If you compare Underclass Hero to Chuck, my choice is without doubt.

I can't tell if that is Whibley on the album cover, but if it is...that kinda pisses me off.

my fave sum album

4 from me, it was an awesome listen, it had some sing-alongs, some hard hitters, some soft songs, a joke song, basically a bit of most things.

i have plenty of tracks from this album on my ipod

OK, for all you people thinking this was a great review and for those who aren't getting the album just because of this review:

A 1?!? I know there are negative reviews and all, but this band is being accused of pretty much copying American Idiot. I disagree. American Idiot was much slower and had much less punk than Underclass Hero. And this album has NOTHING to do with politics. Deryck has said this already in interviews. He put his heart into this record. Of course there are a couple songs criticizing Bush, but the whole album is about the confusion and frustration in modern society. Sum 41 took records like American Idiot and Blink 182 and improved upon them. I wasn't even a fan of Sum 41 before this album, but I think it was a great release and it deserves at least a 3 or 4.

And you people shouldn't just completely ignore the album because of one bad review. No amount of reviews could show you how much YOU would like the album. You should listen to previews or something before you decide to buy the album or not.

you'd think he'd have the heart to not rip off his own music. This Message Edited On 08.19.07

Maybe because the single sounds pretty much exactly like the poppy punk Sum 41 circa AKNF?This Message Edited On 08.19.07

have you not heard how the single sounds exactly like "Fat Lip"?
The melody in the verse is exactly the same.

Yellowcard's Paper Walls sounds like Ocean Avenue. do you accuse them of ripping off their own music? Sum 41 wanted to get back to their roots and take out the metal in their music. Obviously thats gonna make it sound like AKNF because it was their last album without metal influences. and either way they dont sound much alike because every bands music evolves a little over the years

the single is just one song out of fifteen. i didnt even like the single that much but its the album as a whole that counts

Yellowcard are solid, but I don't necessarily disagree with you.

But the single is put out as a bit of an incentive, and why would you want to put out some shitty rehash of another song? Let alone let it exist?

and the chorus is exactly the same from a Chuck b-side, "subject to change". I mean, allright, i can understand why some bands rip off others to gain money but hey, ripping yourself off is.. pitiful.

Well, I don't really care if the songs are similar because this is the only Sum album I listen to besides a few songs off DTLI. I tried listening to AKNF, but it just didn't cut it for me. If you wanna know why they sound the same, ask the band. That's all I can say.

AC/DC did it for like 20 years, and look how far they got.
