Ok, I like the album now. Especially the first half, it's really well thought out - the last track is a little cack though, sadly.

Without James, Billy is without his left man in writing lyrics and music. D'arcy was a great bassist, and a interesting personalty, but overall, this record lacks depth and the orginatly that made Siamese Dreams so exciting and new. This day and age, the scene is stale and old, cliched records like this dosnt help.

OMG how many times does it need to be stated? Iha/D'Arcy never wrote or played ANYTHING on their albums, save for like five songs total in their entire catalogue. Iha/D'Arcy/Auf Der Maur were faces for a camera and that's about it. Corgan, and to a lesser extent Jimmy Chamberlain, ARE Smashing Pumpkins.
Siamese Dream was written and recorded almost completely by Corgan, except for drums, btw. "Mayonaise" was the only song Iha wrote for that record.

Actually James Iha contributed to Soma and Spaceboy, too! But yeah, although Billy was somewhat a tyrant in the recordings for both Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie, he had no one to bounce off ideas with during the making of Zeitgeist, so it must have been harder to write songs in this sense.
Billy used Iha to create an idea of how a song could be played, as well as Darcy, and therefore Zeitgeist is lacking a sense of dimension here. However, the album has certainly grown on me, and it's nice to hear Billy rocking out again.

I beg to differ. I belive James came up with the riff to Zero...as he refers to it as "cyber metal" ???.
I agree with gimo80. Billy needs James to help write, if only its a little part, but together, they are lethal. The sucess of siamese came down to the clashing of ideas and dare I say, egos. I dont feel the same way I felt about this record that I felt about the older ones.

Of course it's a good album. Shadowed Reflection just doesn't know what good music is.

this cd is so good. I just heard the bonus tracks which put the last third of the album on the map for me.
Come on Lets Go is really the only track I'll skip over. Starz used to be annoying, but I like the end now.
the bonus tracks added that extra bit of creativity that I was looking for when I first listened. I am content

make that a 4.5

Disappointing. This album doesn't outright suck, but it never really excels, even The Future Embrace is better than this. At least it never reaches the depths of Zwan-like suckage, though.

The song United States is amazing! Definently the best on the album. Almost a 10 minute song which is not the ussual SP way. love it though, it has the live hendrix type of style were it slows down in the middle with still a beat from the drums but ambient noise in the background then goes back into more melodic style

this album might not be that great, but Tarantula is still one of my favorite pumkins song. it makes top 5 easily for me

Probably my least favorite Pumpkins album with Gish but it's not bad it just lack alittle bass. I think Machina is one of the greatest records ever made I don't understand why no one else thinks so?
