The cover reminds me of the poster for the movie Cronos.

^ Don't worry, Tommy's keeping them alive! :D

Just bought the album and I think it's decent. But yeah, not their best.

Silence of the Darkness falls flat in comparison to the rest of the album, but the keyboard solo still slays. Amazing, colorful album with a lot of highlights, even though I'm not sure about the 4.5 anymore. It's an inofficial 8.5/10, I'm more comfortable that way.

I think this is the album with "Season's End" as a bonus track. Strange because it's one of my all-time favorite Kamelot songs too.

Kamelot bonus tracks are mostly awesome for some reason. Epilogue is probably my favorite Kamelot song and one of my all time favorite songs ever. And yes, Season's End is also one of their best bonus tracks imo. The two Epica outtakes are also great

Yeah agreed Epilogue is a beautiful little track. Atleast that was a bonus on a deep album though, so you can sort of maybe justify it being a bonus? Seasons End not being on this is just perplexing to me

I think Epilogue was mostly cut because the album's ending would have become extremely lengthy with it. It has Memento Mori, then an interlude and ends with Serenade - they essentially had to choose between ending with Epilogue or Serenade, and they chose Serenade because it's more directly tied in with the concept. At least that's how I believe it went. I still put Epilogue behind it when I listen to Epica and Black Halo back to back though

Regarding Season's End, it's probably because they didn't find a place where it fit without damaging the flow/"pacing" of the album as a whole. But I agree about it being better than a lot of songs on here

That makes perfect sense about Epilogue actually. And Momento Mori- damn I need to go listen right now. Haven't heard it in ages and was always one of my favorites too

As you can tell I tend to love the Kamelot songs with great piano melodies. That's really my modus operandi for power metal in general

I've been going through their discography again lately but I saved Epica+Black Halo for the end. Stoked to listen to them again, of course Memento Mori plays a role in that.

Tbh I haven't categorized Kamelot as power metal in my head (anymore), but yes, I can see where you're coming from. Of course power metal is hardly more than cheese in a lot of cases, but when done right it's one of the few metal genres that actually take the liberty of being straight-up beautiful while at it. It can combine the highly melodic aspects of the more orchestral types of music with the rhythmic energy of metal which is what draws me to it

Kamelot is definitely power metal, just one of the premier acts. I'd put Angra in the same category. To some extent even Evergrey - just being a darker variety of it.

I know what you mean though- the corny, dragon-fighting, wizardy bullshit along with generic power chords a lot of the genre is all about gives it a bad name as a whole.

Angra is definitely power metal, yes. Evergrey, not THAT much imo. Kamelot were power metal up to Karma and maybe Epica, but they aren't as easy to categorize after that ... You can't seriously tell me that The Human Stain is a power metal song. Neither is March of Mephisto, or Rule the World, Great Pandemonium, The Zodiac ... the list could go on forever. Likewise, I know several people who can't get into power metal at all and still love Kamelot. That said, of course they move close to its perimeter and that of symphonic metal/progressive metal and things like that.
