I agree that Demon is the best on this (those damn vocals), but I wouldn't necessarily call it their best song. Top 3 though

Demon is like my 4th or 5th favourite on here.
April Ethereal is Opeth's best song imo.

feel like demon is the best song for people to introduce themselves to the band

i think its as good as any, but it really depends on the type of person who is being introduced to opeth. if you're a death metal fan? okay yeah maybe demon. if you're a porcupine tree fan? probably something off damnation. it just depends on the frame of reference

As a PT and DT fan getting into DT (and Death Metal) the song that got me into them was Bleak and it's still my favourite by them. It helped that SW was there and I got to hear some of Mikael's finest clean performances as well as some relatively friendly Death Metal vocals.
More importantly, anyone who's a PT fan will definitely prefer the production on BWP than on MAYH, which could play a bit of a role

Wasn't into GOP when someone told me to start from there. Took a while to get into but I can see why people said it's a good introduction.

My first digs were the moor, grand conjuration, and ghost of perdition.
Now my favs include Serenity Painted Death and Bleak. I need to spend more time with this album, clearly.

Ghost of Perdition and The Grand Conjuration were my introduction to Opeth.[2]
The latter was always on Scuzz in 2005 but I think I heard it originally on a Metal Hammer compilation CD - ah,
memories..

Ahh Scuzz tv... I never saw any Opeth on that. Heaviest thing I saw on Scuzz was Lamb Of God

It was a choppy 5 minute cut, weird video too
Weirdly TGC later became one of my least favourite Opeth tracks so there you go..

This is the album that got me into this band. The first time I heard 'Demon of the Fall' on the radio I was hooked.
