These guys can shread. no arguing it
Yeah, but if I remember correctly most of the solos on this album are mindless shredding.

The song in that clip slays but I don't care for the singer's growls.

listened to this for the first time in awhile to get me ready for their new album (they just finished up recording it)

One of the few albums you can't help but to "growl"-along with.

These guys are much more progressive than Opeth.

Opeth are just really boring melodic death now. Especially on Watershed.

I'm not sure Opeth could be considered any form of death metal...

ninjuice is correct. They are just Progressive Metal with a minor death metal influence on the vocals.

Still would fit under the proverbial umbrella of death metal though, though I would never really refer to them as that in a normal conversation...This Message Edited On 11.25.08

Judging by Blackwater Park and Watershed (haven't heard more), they're almost heavy enough to be melodeath at points, but still aren't.
edit: I also need to listen to this band some more. I love "Elegy".This Message Edited On 11.25.08

Their new album absolutely blows their other stuff (which is great) out of the water IMO...I'm trying to finish up my review for it but I can't make it sound unfanboyish

If you can make it work like in that Emery review, it should be just fine.

Yeah its not all "omg album is amazing cuz i say it iz" but it's pretty much full of bountiful praise, but in my opinion its highly warranted so idk...
