Am I the only one that hears absolutely no similarity to El Cielo? I mean, they both use guitars and drums. Oh, and they both have a singer. Um, that's about it. Either way, I like them both, but this more.

Yeah, I know El Cielo is like this site's favorite album. I haven't listened to it enough (I've listened to it 3 times) to give it my rating yet. But I just can't get past the singer's lack of variety. His melodies and vocal delivery seem the same on each song. Inventive music though. I know I'll get bashed for that, but someone could maybe explain to me why that's wrong. Who knows, it could definitely grow on me though.

This review comes off as extremely biased. It's way too preoccupied with the comparison between these guys and Saosin.
Basically, it's like this: if you want a great review on how many bands you can compare Circa Survive to and how that automatically means Circa sucks, check out this review. If you want a review about the actual music, ignore this review.

You can hide behind that all you like, but don't bag what I write unless you can do better.

This review criticizes Green's lack of vocal range because he only has "two types of singing". How many types of singing do we hear on El Cielo? Not hating on Dredg, just making a point; not really a negative aspect of an album.

Yeah, but Green supposing to be this amazing singer is nothing that the band or even Green did wrong. That's just other people that created that expectation. Plus, his two types of singing are plenty. Anything more would detract from the music. What else does he need to achieve this diversity that the album sorely needs? Should he have a spoken word section or rap? If he pulled off some Mariah Carey range, it wouldn't sound right with the music. Just saying that's not a good negative point. To each his own though.
