I think his bass drums are triggered.
Of course they are, otherwise it would be a blur of noise. You have to trigger at this speed.
I think Origin is a far superior band that plays a very similar style, so I'll stick with that.
Origin aren't nearly as technically oriented as BTM.

Triggered or not, the guy still has to go that fast. It doesn't make him less talented. Music is an art, he is just using it as a tool to help make it.
As a drummer, I have no problem with them.

If it wasn't triggered you wouldn't be able to make anything out. It's not like he's that douche from Behemoth who triggers his snare.

Exactly. He can do it, it would just be hard to hear it without them. That's why I have no problem with them.

Inferno only triggers his bass drums

his snare sounds pretty triggered on Apostasy. Either way Inferno is a shite drummer.

Says the guy who thinks Nile is average. Is George Kolias a "shite" drummer too?...
Seriously, Inferno is one of the better drummers in extreme metal. He might not be very original, but he's got the speed & technicality to measure up with the best. This Message Edited On 06.11.07

I don't give a shite how fast or "Technical" you can play if what you're playing is boring and derivative. Nile + Behemoth = Boring and Derivative.

You overlook the fact that everything is derived from something else. Sigh, a band you praise, and I'm sure they're worthy of the praise you give them, blends thrash, black metal, psychedelic rock and symphonic elements (I'm guessing from what I've read). Now, what's so original about that? They're just juxtaposing things that haven't been juxtaposed in the past, it's not like they came up with these ideas out of thin air.
I guess if you're into the artsy-fartsy aspect of music then you're inclined to think that way, but it's incredibly short-minded and lacks insight into what it is you're criticizing and comparing it to.

Yeah I'm short minded. You've got me. Have fun listening to Nergal try to growl with his balls in his mouth and Nile acting sophisticated because they can use arabian scales.
|
| |
How many other death metal bands use Arabian scales? That's right, NONE. Way to contradict yourself in saying that it's "boring and derivative" when they incorporate things not normally seen in the genre into their music. Do they act sophisticated? Not really...
And Nergal's vocals aren't very good unless they're layered, and even then...
Bleh, gracing such a juvenile post with a response is...bleh.

Take it to the death heads thread. You're not worth arguing with in this review, which is totally unnecessary.
|
| |
just because they use modes that sound "arabian" doesnt mean they aren't boring and derivative

Nergal sucks anyway. The multi-tracking is really bad.

tbh, Melechesh uses arabian/middle eastern scales as well.
Also, has anyone listened more closely to this yet? Does anyone agree with me that there are actual songs hidden just under the extreme tech death surface? Good songs?

They blend together too well.

To this whole drumming argument I totally agree with cocaine. This drummer along with George Kollias, Inferno and other speed drummers, while very talented, simply arnt exciting. Thats what makes drummers like Sean Reinhert, Gene Hoglan and Ben Koller so damn awesome. Although on a side note I really like Nile and what I've heard from Behemoth.

these guys have waht it takes to be great.. but the frikkin breakdowns... there are too many frikkin breakdowns... very good review... but i have to say Necrophagist are much much better as far as tech death metal goes.. and Muhammed Suicmez is a much better player IMO.
