Assuming that a vocalist has to double as an instrumentalist to have talent is a pretty shitty assumption.
never said the singer had NO talent. although i could argue that too since the vocalist for Beneath the Massacre had abt as much talent screaming as the vocalist for Poison the Well does. just pointing out the vocalist for gojira's obvious advantage in talent when playing live over BtM

On the other hand, a vocalist who doesn't have to double as an instrumentalist has far more opportunities to train and use his voice, improving his singing talent.

Jeffery Moreira is actually a very good vocalist. Maybe not on all of his records but I found his performance on You Come Before You was really good. This is, of course, debatable.... I have discovered, tonight, that Gojira sounds HUGE live. Im not a huge fan of them or anything, but they fucking rocked tonight. Their only competition was Behemoth. Behemoth was better of course, but at Least Gojira made Job for a Cowboy look like some chumps. I thoroughly enjoyed that. JfaC just suck. Shit. Beneath the Massacre made them look like chumps.

I kind of like JfaC, but Behemoth are really intense live, true dat.
Jeffrey Moreira rules, he is one of my favourite vocalists.

I dont know. JfaC just bore me. They were okay live, but they were just that. Okay. Maybe it was because Behemoth were on right before, or maybe it was because they are just extremely overrated. Im not hating, they just dont do it for me.

These guys will do big things, I'm sure of it. I've being hearing alot of hype surrounding this band, And I believe they can live up to it. Check the drummer out, the guy is amazing. Their sound is heavy and brutal, the way they can shift tempos is superb. It is a long listen, and it does drag on for a little bit in some places, which is the only downfall I can give it. But overall an amazing album. Stand outs on here have to be "Backbone" and "Flying Whales" imo. The riff on "Backbone" is class. This Message Edited On 05.02.08

^ Yeah exactly, you should buy the cd. How could you not like this band? they're much better than half of the shit out there these days. They've got talent, you can't deny it.

I pulled this out the other day and gave it another listen. I remember it being really good when I first listened to it but its worn off quite significantly. I think it all depends on how many bands you have listened to that sound like these guys that will determine a final rating. I have discovered so many bands that were doing stuff like this before these guys over the last year or two and it certainly has certainly had an effect on what I think about these guys now.
The polarized opinions about these guys is enormous on this site as well I noticed. Some people really like and some really don't.
DFelon,
Really good review by the way too. I probably didn't agree with you when I first picked this up but now I agree on a few of your points.

These guys are everything that is right about 'Death'. I find most of the genre to be more than just a little pedestrian. But cats like these are hugely talented and push the proceedings up to a totally different level. Intronaut is another organization that is steeped in innovation. Death Metal without a progressive basis is just flarkin noise.

Arsis really beats up on the little girls on the scene too. And, now that I think about it, 'Intronaut' aren't really 'Death', although there's some elements in their sound. More along the lines of what Mastodon and Baroness are doing....but with more of a Death slant. And, although Arsis slay, they are skating a real thin line before becoming that Emo-Pop fare that Protest The Hero altready are....I'm just inviting/beggin' for a sock in the gut, aren't I?

Ya know what, foreverendeared? I'm gone from this place tomorrow. I just looked and I registered for this site back on 05-04-08 and I'm still unable to post in the Forums. It's acknowledged that I've only been an active member for the past three weeks, but that's still a ridiculously long time to have such a simple problem go unremedied. I literally can't get one Mod/Med/Admin to address the problem. And, It's probably as simple as changing one darn setting. One single box has to probably be checked or unchecked and I can contribute on the Forums. But, no one will take a moment out to figure out what's up. Do you feel my pain? lol.

It's flarkin crazy, right? It's like one of those cases where everyone witnesses someone being murdered, but no one helps because they all think that the other guy has got it under control.....Actually, it's nothing like that. But, I'm sure that if the Mods are reading my comments, they all assume that someone else is taking care of it. ATTENTION: They're not! So, please give me a hand here. I'm being stabbed to death and no one will call the ambulance!
