| Summary: "Full Circle" is a fitting album title, as we see Creed come back around to the same tepid and uninspired songwriting. |
5 of 7 thought this review was well written
Creed rose to incredible heights of fame in the late 90's to the early 2000's. They were kings of the radio. It was literally impossible to escape the music. It was in commercials, playing in shopping centers, and blaring from the car of every musically deluded teenager. Creed was a ***ing beast of mainstream rock and roll. So it's no surprise that even after a five year hiatus, fans are in uber hype mode for their latest release, "Full Circle."
Sadly, the album doesn't nearly live up to the hype that's surrounded it. In all actuality, Creed dash the hopes of millions by creating a dull release, void of anything musically substantial. People the world over shall be gravely disappointed, tossing their CD's in piles, setting them ablaze while memories of Scott Stapp fade in the inferno. Well, that would be the case if there were any hope left in the musical taste of the average listener. The fact is, "Full Circle" will be a hit, going platinum, thus invigorating the wayward careers of America's favorite pseudo-christian rock group. Stadiums will be sold out, t-shirts will be worn everywhere, and thousands will be singing along to Stapp's ball-gargling vocals. Yet I cannot help but think that this will be undeserving, as "Full Circle" is a completely forgettable experience.
Breaking the album down track by track would be meaningless, for each song follows a verse/chorus/verse pattern that leaves little distinction between tracks. "Overcome" is the first single, heavier than most of the album. It's the strongest song as it's pace is a little different, and it also includes a fairly well done guitar solo. Like in most mainstream rock albums, a slow track is thrown in the middle to break up the monotony. Yet this only furthers what makes the album not worth listening to. "Away in Silence" is the more subdued track, offering some of the most generic lyrics in the bands career. "Don't you give up on us, don't you give up on love." And yes it's much more awkward hearing it through Scott Stapps forced, Eddie Vedder-esque vocals. And no, these vocals have not improved in the half decade he's been away. On that note, the band as a whole hasn't improved at all.
The worst part about this album is how forgettable it is. Not awful enough to be a joke (Brokencyde, Aiden), and not nearly good enough to receive praise of any type. "Full Circle" is just another below average record that will be easily forgotten.
This record could have been released in 2005. Creed haven't changed a bit, which could either be interpreted as either good or bad. But in reality, "Full Circle" is a poor effort. This is no doubt the most generic, uninspired release of the year. There is absolutely nothing here for someone who likes their music with excitement or, well, good songs.

| | | Yeah, same here, particularly the 1's and 1.5's where the reviewer bags the hell out of a bad band who deserve it.
