Female fronted metalcore has been always one of those things that sounds like it could work, but there’s rarely any evidence of it. Bands like Walls of Jericho, and iwrestledabearonce has shown that women can indeed scream and sing with music to match while other bands like Otep, and In This Moment have shown some women just aren’t capable of both styles. However imagine my surprise when I took a listen to a little known band called Straight Line Stitch, not only has she got a voice that makes every female fronted metal/rock jealous, but possibly in all of metalcore.

Indeed Alexis has can scream like the devil and sing like an angel and it truly brings this album home. She manages to use this incredible voice with conjunction with her deep heartfelt lyrics. The instrumentals however are also very much competent they can break riffs and solos just as good as anyone from As I Lay Dying or Killswitch Engage. The diversity of their brand of heavy metalcore makes it accessible for both the radio-rock listener, but also heavy enough for any metalhead/hardcore fan. While it’s nothing you may have heard before, it’s possibly one of the finer bands in the genre to date.

Songs like “Never See The Day” “Promise Me” “Black Veil” and “Seneca Tragedy” show the melodic side of their sound while not fighting the heavier side, indeed the band often comes off as blending the two rather then switching. From the catchy chorus of “Promise Me” to the insane breakdown of “Black Veil” every song is competent and the melodic or heavy sections never feel forced. There are 2 songs on the album however that deviate from the bands usual metalcore path. “What You Do to Me” shows the band at it’s most accessible, and the word “mainstream” may even pop up in your head (not a bad thing to be honest). While “Yesterday’s Gone” takes it a step further with a well played acoustic song, Alexis’s vocals truly manage to soar above and beyond on this song with an emotional heartfelt delivery.

Straight Line Stitch has easily become one of the most prominent metalcore bands in the subgenre. Everything from strong song structure, emotional lyrics, and powerful vocals. While those who are easily turned away by metalcore, you will probably not find anything that will change your mind here. But those who need to find something heavier to listen to while it not turning you away, or those who just want something nice and heavy to listen to can find something to tickle your fancy on this release.

Okay, I'll try to go "easy" on you since this is your first review.

There's lots of room for improvement:

- Your first paragraph, I suggest you get rid of it. Not to sound mean, but I honestly don't care how much you love the band or where you first heard them, it does nothing condusive to the review. Also, the parts where you say, "I think "To Be Godlike"'s version was better" or "I miss the vocals on ..." once again, I don't think many people care if you miss certain vocals from previous CD's, you can make that comment in the comments, it doesn't need to be in the review.

- A lot of grammatical errors, and capitalization where it doesn't need to be: (ie) "but when it exits the chorus, your left with yearning for the chorus again." (should be you're), "'Eucharist' is sadly just filler to me, and follow a pattern much similar to the other songs " (follows), "even balance of Heaviness and Light, but i miss" (heaviness & light - no need for capitalization, but "I" does) etc.

- Quite a few awkward sentences I found: "'Taste of Ashes' is a stand-out on this album mostly due to Jamey Jasta of Hatebreed appearence on it," This could be said less awkwardly - perhaps "ToA is a stand out mostly due to guest vocals from Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta" or something along those lines

- I suggest proof-reading before you submit your reviews. What can help is reading them outloud, that way you can pick out any awkward sentences, catch grammatical errors etc.

- Is the lead singer's name Alexis or Alexia? You had two different spellings. Also, give a little review of the band, like they say in sports, "there's no I in team" even if they didn't contribute a hell of a lot, pick out what was good, this just seems like a solo album with a session band by the "reads" of it.

But overall, I didn't really get a feel of what this band sounded like, all I really got from it was that I should check out "To Be Godlike" as you mentioned it so much and that this album was "polished". Luckily I've heard the band's sound before, but for someone who hasn't they could be missing out on a talented, female-fronted metal band.

Keep writing, and you'll get better

thanks, and i've heard alexia and alexis, and i was convinced it was alexia.

and yeah, this was kinda done on the spot, so a lot of errors were there that I wish I could fix, it was right after it was posted that I noticed a lot of the above errors, I really wish I could've pushed for the great sound this band deserves, but I guess I was trying too hard to be a douche.
