Review Summary: Believer continues to evolve, purposefully and with excellence
These two tunes are unlike anything you've heard from Believer before, perhaps most notably due to Kurt Bachman taking a 'clean' vocals approach. It works just fine. A press release stated that Believer's intention with this release and others to follow in 2017 is to combine the Believer sound with some of the bands that influenced them in their early days. Would you believe those bands include Kansas, Rush, and Yes? Something new in the offering; that's what 1 of 5 is. The lyrics are intelligent, as always, from a band that has taken a very intentional approach to life and worldview formation. Do they believe and espouse all the same things they did in their landmark early albums, which were heavily Christian in theme? Apparently not. The lyrics have no reference to religion. Bachman and Daub, the only remaining original members, have lived life, experienced things, listened to thoughtful voices, and thus changed. Whatever your own journey has been, and whatever change you do or do not allow into your life, the paths charted by Believer are always worth a listen. And the discordant, time-changing, effects-laced metal rhythms are as enjoyable as ever.
