3 of 3 thought this review was well written

The band:

Scott Weiland - Vocals
Robert DeLeo - Bass
Dean DeLeo - Guitars
Eric Kretz - Drums

After their 3rd 'Tiny Music...', Scott started to take drugs and fades himself away from the band. But then takes rehab and reforms with the group and makes their 4th album 'No.4' released in 1999. This was their comeback album.

[Review]

Track 1: Down = 3:48

This is a great opener, and is a very different approach from their other albums. The guitars are drop D so it makes a more crunchy sound. The vocals seem at a higher level. It is very different. But it is an awesome song. Very rocky and has an opening impact on the album. Very good song and was released as a hit.

Review: 4.5/5

Track 2: Heaven and Hotrods = 3:26

This song is very heavy in terms of rock. Quite noisy on the verses but the chorus is less heavy by softening the distortion and the vocals are smooth on the chorus. The solo is great and drums are dynamic.

Review: 4/5

Track 3: Pruno = 3:14

The guitar riffs are catchy and drums have a good effect on the song. Vocals are also good with thought through lyrics. It is soft compared to the first 2 songs. A good song.

Review: 4/5

Track 4: Church on Tuesday = 3:00

Another soft distortion song, it is kinda similar to Pruno but with less attitude on the chorus than 'Pruno'. Good drumming again (it seems that the drumming on this album is better than the other albums) and vocals are okay.

Review: 4/5

Track 5: Sour Girl = 4:17

This is acoustic with drums and some electric guitaring in it. This is one of the best in the album. It is very laid back and very easy to listen to. It is an excellent song by vocals and guitaring in the chorus. All elements of the song fit in perfectly.

Review: 5/5

Track 6: No Way Out = 4:20

The opening starts with a electric based drum and then starts with a delayed guitar and then bursts with distortion with dynamic drums. The rest of the song drags as it is really repetitive with its rhythm and riff but an okay song. Some people might find it good.

Review: 3.8/5

Track 7: Sex and Violence = 2:56

This is a cool rock song with its extrodinary drums and high gain of overdrive. On the verse, the guitar turns to fuzz and vocals are really good and the pre-chorus sounds really cool with its nice sound of sliding down tones in harmony. But the chorus is very jumpy. This song is probably the coolest of the bunch.

Review: 5/5

Track 8: Glide = 5:01

This is a very nice song. With its nice guitaring and at times, a really high vocal by Scott. The chorus is good, the verses makes it sound nice. A very good song, inspired by The Doors.

Review: 4.5/5

Track 9: I Got You = 4:15

This song is typical 60's sound with its sliding guitars. Sounds good with the song as it is based on 60's style, the vocals are great and guitars are good. Nothing to say about it really but it is a good song.

Review: 4/5

Track 10: MC5 = 2:42

This is probably the worst song on the album. As it is very repetitive all round. There is no sense in the song but it does get grip of you after a while but still doesn't impact.

Review: 3/5

Track 11: Atlanta = 5:16

This is a beautiful song as it has nice vocals and guitaring. it is almost a ballad. Very emotional song with a nice ending with Caribbian music in the background. A vey good ending to an album.

Review: 4.5/5

Overall this is album is a must, it didnt get a 5 as the 2 songs i gave under 4 really puts it down. But still, this album is fantastic and another essential album from the band.

Best of Album:
- Down
- Sour Girl
- Sex And Violence
- Glide
- Atlanta

OVERALL: 4/5

I really like this album, because I was hooked on Sour Girl for a while, and Atlanta is just great.

This album is much better than core and purple. I'd say it's their second best album, right behind tiny music.

2 great songs, that's about it...the filler is more unpleasant than before.

Your stupid. MC5 isnt the worst song, Church on Tuesday is. Did you listen to how many times the lyrics were repeated?

Atlanta is....like the best shit ever. True classic, and is one of the reasons I gave this album a crazy 4.5! This Message Edited On 03.31.09
