Review Summary: I put in as much time in this summary as the band did in these songs
You know how you listen to a band's b-sides and can't help but think why those songs are not on the album? Well, when you'll listen to this ep, you will definitely not have those thoughts because you will be too busy wondering why it exists in the first place. This ep is bad.
Correction. It's not bad: it's bland. The band took the worst (read: most boring) parts of Devil and decided to create an ep merging all those elements together. 3 out of the 4 new tracks sound so similar to each other that you will be wondering whether you've heard them somewhere before (you have: it's self-referential, since it's within the ep itself). While Leighton sounds as fresh and good as always, his lyrics have taken a serious hit. Look at this:
“I was playing my guitar just to see your face
While you were burning up some **** in the fire place”
and
“Yeah, I remember laughing my ass off with you next to me”
The band sounds like a group of teenagers (they aren't actually though) who just found out they have enough money to do what they want to do and so they did what they wanted to do. They have abused the acoustic guitar and the gang vocals and under-developed melodies.
When the band do get things right on “Do You Remember”, they do get things right – its intoxicating chorus can't help but remind you of youth and nostalgia and the build-up during the verse works well because of the nice synth. And when Leigh sings
'Do you remember?', you can't help but feel things.
If you are a hardcore Lydia-Devil fan, you will probably love this. If you are a Lydia fan, you will probably love Do You Remember. If you are a fan, just keep spinning.
Also, the album art sucks and this is coming from someone who liked Devil's artwork.
