the vinyl track "To Reveal" is fantastic, too. And so is the longer version of "Cleansing."
but: "showcases the band with play by their own rules"
"with" is typo?

"Eight years after this exquisite album’s release and Wolves In The Throne Room still remain rooted in the underground metal scene"
not sure that's necessarily true considering their last record
always good to see more love for this album

I don't think this is a classic like most people, but still rules so hard. Nice review. m/

Black Cascade and Diadem both beat this easily for me. But I wouldn't disagree with people thinking this is classic because a lot of people do.

"not sure that's necessarily true considering their last record"
One record experimenting with ambient doesn't suddenly negate the 4 that came before it

This is definitely my fave of their's as well

Celestite is a pretty sweet album now that you guys mention it. A lot of people don't dig it, but I enjoy it pretty hard.

If they were planning a complete metamorphosis à la Ulver I could understand not wanting to associate them with underground bm anymore (although given that 80+% of their catalogue is metal I still think we'd have to wait a bit to really justify it). But since, as far as I know, it was a one off and they still plan to do BM, they definitely still are a metal band and should be treated as such

Tuna check the last song at least, sure it's half the record but it's like the best song for this time of year

Diadem is my favorite but everything they've done is great. I think Black Cascade and Celestial Lineage are underrated.

Good review, this album rules. Yeah, I agree with Hawks. I don't think that this is quite as classic as everybody else, but it still rips nonetheless.

Cascade is but Lineage isn't. Lineage was hella clunky with all those interludes (Sunbather cough cough), and the tracks themselves felt rather disjointed like they were having a hard time holding together. And then the last track is a 10-minute build-up to nothing :/
|
| |
Get that Sunbather comparison out of here you bastard
I disagree though, I thought Celestial Lineage was great and it felt pretty natural to me.
